Was told last night that all the V8s have a couple of electrical that Ford have to fix before being delivered.  Anyone else heard this? Apparently the fours are not affected

If your Mustang has been built and booked for transport and you know the VIN number you can track it. Go to www.2wglobal.com select track and trace on the customer tools. on the next page, use your VIN number as the Cargo ID and viola  :pepper:.

I have read a lot of comments from motoring journalists and forums that have stated we have been ripped off by Ford with the pricing in Australia.  Many saying the price here is $20,000 more than punters pay in the US.  It has been repeated so often that everyone seems to accept it as a fact.  I never felt that we were being gouged and didn't care anyway because I was very happy with the Australian pricing, even though I felt I was gouged a bit on the dealer delivery.

Anyway, I decided to do the math.  I used the US Ford website and configured a GT Premium with Performance Pack, which is roughly equivalent to the Australia specs. The Australian version does seem to have a couple of additional features that have not been included in the US price, but I have noted them separately.

The conclusion is that the Australian price is at least A$5000 cheaper than the US equivalent and possibly A$9000 cheaper if you include the additional extras that seem to be included in the Oz specs.

A couple of caveats:
I have not included any cost for shipping to Australia.
I am not sure if the US price is a drive-away price.
 - If it is a drive-away price it includes some local taxes etc. but remember I have not included any shipping costs.
 - If it is not a drive-away price then the Oz price is even cheaper by comparison.
The USD conversion is 0.72c to A$1
The $5000 cheaper conclusion is based on the original Australian pricing, before the local price increase on 1st Dec 2015.

I am not suggesting the comparison is perfect but it is as objective as I can make it with the information available.  The comparison doesn't really matter because we can't change the local price anyway.  I just wanted to bust some myths.

A mate sent me a link to the 6G forum of a mustang delivered to Bendigo Ford that is being sent back to Ford Australia as the buyer has pulled out of the contract. Appears to be the same as what I have ordered.

I meant to add to the caveat that the stamp duty etc. is based on Victoria.  I didn't investigate any state differences.

I also meant to add that the inflated price myth seems to come because journalists or whoever makes the claim seem to compare the base GT price in the US to the Australian GT Premium + performance pack price.  Lazy journalism at the least, or just a good headline.

I think the Aussie prices are great .  Compare the  price with the 2005 Monaro ok a long time ago but a V8 two door ,auto and they were $60,000 plus on road costs so very close to the GT mustang and the Monaro was 10 plus years ago . Go price a HSV commodore and you will  :thud: .

If he doesn't want it..... I'LL TAKE IT!!

$63k seems to be about the mark for a GT fastback, manual..
IMO, a bargain.. From the Ford website's on "Build and Price" feature, an XR8 would be as much, if not more depending on the options you selected.. Given the choice, I'd be more than happy to fork out a few extra $k, lose two doors and get a silver horse in the grille.

Take in the cost of the Roush / Shelby upgrades (supercharger, body-kits, etc.) and then it gets a bit crazy.. But even so....

I must be missing something here, from your prices the US car with options is $43870 US which is $58347 aus (that was at 75c in the dollar conv)
That's still $7613 cheaper than the aus manual vers,

Yep, check your math....

Your US prices = $39,790+$4,080 = $43,870 (all "extras")

$43,870/.72 = $60,930.... a bit less than $65,960 or $68,460?   Not sure how you get 5k less.  Its 5k or 8k more.... based on your numbers.  Unless the chart isn't what your using to compare prices...

Don't kid yourself Ford is making a lot on these overseas sales... as is the Aus government in tax, a big part of the added costs... they make good money on them in the US and even more overseas.

Look at "dealer prep" noted here 3-5k.. to do what, clean it (maybe a quick wash or full detail, optional), drive it a few k's and have the tech plug in the computer to check it (maybe), fill-in registration paperwork, and hand over the keys... a few hours work for 3-5k... tough job!  :smile01: Some may do a bit more, but most won't even fill the tank with petrol...  usually $1.5k or so and still a money maker at that price.

In the end it is all irrelevant, you pay whatever Ford wants here as it is a feeding frenzy...

The comparison I am making is taking the US price of a similar spec model, converting to AUD and adding the local costs such as GST, stamp duty etc.  I believe this is a fairer comparison.  This works out at AUD 65,960 for a GT manual, whereas the local drive away price is around $61,000 before the price increase on Dec. 1.
I hope that explains it.  Even using your example at USD 43,870 at .72c the conversion is AUD 60,930.  This is around the same as the pre Dec. 1 drive away prices here.  The point is most comments I have read on Australian prices state we are paying $20,000 more than US customers.  IMHO, it is simply not true.

Saw the first new model that I have seen on the road in SA this morning. A white with blue stripes in Melbourne St, North Adelaide.  Looked very impressive.

Like most of you I'm going out of my mind waiting for my new toy so I've looked up everything possible online and on social networking. I'm really keen on the look of multi color running lights, the only place I can seem to find is in the States and you have to actually modify the LED board in the head light. Looks easy enough to install but I've never taken off the front cover of a head light. Anyone tried it before?

I picked up my GT on Tuesday.  :thumb: I only found out then that the tri-bar running lights are non functional on the Australian model due to ADR standards. I assume someone will come up with an after market update.

Wow. That looks great. I don't know how, but that's certainly a modification I might like to get done. Not certain about green though.....

The other thing is a grunty exhaust. I read someone has arranged for a Roust exhaust system to be sent over from the US. Not being a subject I know a lot about, but isnt good exhaust sound just a matter of changing over the muffler / resonator gizmo at the back of the car?

Damn! I guess I'll have to wait until the car comes so I can have a play and check out what the wiring is like. The Diode LED boards come with wiring and actually replace the tri-bar lights but not sure about connection points.

The kit is multi color so it can be changed, will let know you how it goes if I get it done. I'm actually getting a full Roush R3 performance package done from Mustang Australia witch includes the active exhaust kit. It's more about the performance the sound is just the bonus :evilone:

Completely understand, but for me it is just the nice sound. 300 and something Kw is more than I am ever likely to use cruising to and from work every day, and for the odd trip across the Hay Plains.....

The more i look at these it might be worth trading or selling the FG GT later in the year.

Just unsure if the GT is worth keeping as a potential collectible long term.

Mine is on the same boat, arriving in Port Kembla & to be off loaded tomorrow. My dealer called yesterday & told me it will be held there on dock for 10 working days due to Ford Aust. doing something?

I did the same comparison mid-way through last year, and made the same conclusion that we are NOT being ripped-off (apart from some dealers arbitrary "dealer delivery" fees)

Ian

The conclusion is that the Australian price is at least A$5000 cheaper than the US equivalent and possibly A$9000 cheaper if you include the additional extras that seem to be included in the Oz specs.

Hi Ho, can you confirm:
- any parking sensors front or back (or just the reversing camera?)
- just standard cruise control? (ie not adaptive)
- no cross traffic alert for parking?

thanks

Ian

how about memory seats ? are we getting them ?
