Thanks Andrew, will drive it and let it settle, maybe a touch out on the drivers side back corner, a tad high  :event:

I think the original cross ply tyres would of made it that just a little better. Still very nice.

Had been having some problems starting the '68 coupe over the last few weeks and it was taking 7-8 pumps on the gas pedal to get it started and the automatic choke didn't seem to be working. The other week, ended up flooding the carby so had a look at it today. When turning the thermatic spring housing nothing was happening and the choke plate wasn't opening or closing so removed the housing and found the little choke piston appeared to be stuck. Sprayed some WD40 in the choke housing and on all the linkages then freed everything up moving them by hand. Checked all the vacuum lines, heated air and clean air tubes were all connected OK, put the thermatic spring back on and adjusted so a bit leaner as I was getting a bit of a rich fuelly smell when starting previously. Tested it out - 1 press of the accelerator to the floor and the choke plate closed to about an eighth of an inch gap, 1 more pump on the accelerator, turned the key and BAM, started straight up to a nice high idle after sitting for over a week. Tapped the accelerator after a couple of minutes and dropped down to a nice even idle - perfect. Hasn't been that good since I've had the car.  :smile01:

Investigated the leak from the master cylinder on my 1 week old 68 fastback.

Turns out the previous owner had the diaphragm gasket on upside down.

What next???  :ouch:

I will be doing another axle seal on my car on Sunday, I have already done them both about 4 months ago, but apparently the driver's side is insistent on leaking ever so slightly, so I'm going to look at it again.. :ouch:

Look for a little groove worn into the axle itself done by the seal over the years. This may be why it is leaking.

If the seal has an internal spring that can pop out, not familiar with the seal sorry, but if it does, remove it, find the join and undo it. Snip a few mm off the female end, rejoin and refit. This will tighten up the seal a bit and hopefully take up that little bit that you need.

Thanks Ash, will have a look.
I don't think they have a spring, but I'll have a look anyway..
A few weeks ago I noticed that it appeared to be leaking again, but it wasn't flowing, as it's not terribly difficult to take the axle out and swap the seal over I'm going to do that anyway, but I may have just not cleaned it up properly after the last time I did it..

EDIT
Just checked, there is a spring inside the seal, thanks again for the tip! :thumb:

fitted the door handle , lock on driver side all working nicely , went over to big barry renyolds "early pony parts" and grabbed some secondhand parts for under the dash and then died from the heat  !!!

Picked up 68 coupes carby. Noted an earlier post from StephenSLR recommending http://www.carburettorservice.com.au/ so took the Autolite 2100 in for a complete overhaul. Found it interesting that this is a family owned company started in 1920, specialising in carburettor service, repair and sales and have been operating out of the current premises in Burwood since 1940. These guys really know carburettors and can second Stephen's recommendation.  :thumb:

Will hook it back up today and hopefully will be all good for the run out to the All American Day tomorrow.  :smile01:

Just as an add on to this post - put the carby back on this afternoon, slight adjustment with the idle speed and took it for a quick run up the Wakehurst Parkway. It's like a different car - more responsive acceleration, idles better and the rich fuel smell is gone. Also the black carbon splat on the garage floor that I was getting on startup has almost disappeared. Couldn't be happier. Should have had this done when I first got the car - has made a big difference.  :thumb:

Fitted new front suspension kit from Custom Mustangs, along with new springs. Unfortunately the kit was missing the spring perches but XR Falcon ones fitted.

Car now sits a bit higher front and rear but I can live with it

Had a strange metallic noise when turning right, added P/S fluid to the pump and this fixed it. Level was only slightly below full so not sure why it made the noise but happy it is now quiet.  :pepper:

My 66 overheated over the weekend so checked the thermostat to find out I did not have one. Bought a new one and installed it. Then first lesson learnt about installing it properly after it started to leak as I didn't have it seated properly so took it all out today ready for a re-fit once I buy a new gasket.

Bought a NOS Ford Autolite Dashpot C1AZ-9B549-A. Never thought I would find one to replace the generic half plastic one on my Autolite 2100 carby. I find it interesting that this has been sitting on a shelf for possibly 40 plus years.  :smile01:
