Hey Anfo, thanks for sharing the pics!

I follow a painting forum in the US, and this guy Rusty does some amazing work. Here are a couple of 65/66's that he is working on. He has plenty more but these two are a big standout. A great read and could be very informative for you.

It took me a while ,but what a great read. I have just spent the last 2 years doing a similar project ,but not as well documented. Good on you anfo for taking on a project like that ,hope it goes well for you.

I really enjoy their updates and learning from their threads. They are a very knowledgeable group and very happy to answer questions or offer support. I had some of their paints shipped over to use on my car.

I wonder at what point you decide if it is worth restoring a car or not. Checked out the above link from Ash and the car is more rust than panel. I know the owner said she wanted to save a Mustang, but for an everyday '65 coupe, surely you would try and get a better starting point. In saying that, Rusty is an absolute genius, and it is an amazing resto.  :smile01:

No worries man  :thumb: I know there are 10 billion approaches to body work and paint but from a newb angle, but these guys are very happy to help. Even from this side of the world, I have already been offered help at any time, just pick up the phone I was told. That was from Barry who runs the show. And from the service I have already received, I believe that 100%. There are plenty of do-it-yourselfers and each have something positive to say about the help they received and the results they got from their work.

Well she's here (finally) had fun getting it in the backyard last night, no brakes, no handbrake and a dodgy gear box.... wouldn't want to have a sloping back yard (which I've got) eh? Let the work commence

Well now that the car has arrived we have discovered a few things;
shifter cable broken therefore shifter doesn't talk to gearbox, no brakes working, no handbrake working, alternator seized, rear shock mountings are welded to the traction bars woo hoo got some great learning ahead of me.... man i love this car!

On the progress side fuel tank which was contaminated has been removed, a replacement is sitting in place for the moment, fuel filler neck removed and cleaned. Today I scraped the badly bubbled tinting off the windows, removed the front carpet and jute finding a strong rust free floor in the front.

The goal for tomorrow arvo is to remove the front and rear seats the rear carpet and jute and start on the headliner.

A productive couple of days, interior is almost completely out only the headliner and the dash board and instrument cluster to go. Also got the front drums off... could not remove the actual drum but remembered vaguely working on some drums years ago so undid the bolts at the back, removed cotter pin and nut as well as a bearing shell and she was ready to come off except for the soft brake line, so I figured what the hell out comes the hack saw hey presto job done. Brakes were locked on so ended up having to use a pinch bar to separate the drum from the rest. Took me about an hour to figure this out by the way....

Meanwhile my wife comes out and she's supposedly less mechanical than me takes one look and has the other side off and the drum separated in under 20 minutes.... talk about a wonderful woman -  maybe she should be working on the car not me lol.

well its time for another update, I have ripped into it instead for puttering around. All I need to do before send it off to the blasters is to remove engine, 'box front suspension and steering and a few knobs from the dash board and the left hand leaf spring from the rear got another  :ouch: bolt that just won't move... had to cut the door striker plate two weeks ago with a grinder cos it wouldn't move.. here's some pics.

When I say i ripped into it I mean I got stuck in after a mate of mine came round and said "send it to a blaster you'll be there for ages trying to clean it up yourself" so I got stuck in removed both doors, boot front and read windows, the front one was cracked from top to bottom right down the middle so levering it out with a pinch bar wasn't a problem. I butchered the wiring all the insulation was brittle with age anyway. Then proceeded to remove the ventilation stuff from under the dash.

Today because of the  :cry: weather I wasn't able to do as much as I'd like but got the drive shaft out, the right exhaust manifold and starter motor off.... oh for a carport to work under!
