Hi All,

Just wondering how you guys secure your garages/sheds.
What I'm after is good ideas and not too expensive in securing my garage.

I've worked long and hard to finish this project, last thing i need is some DikHeAd helping themselves to it.

Find out what types of security lower your insurance premiums
They would only lower your risk profile if the methods were effective.

What sort of garage arrangement do you have now? Need regular access for other cars?

We got a monitored alarm for our house ( a real one, not the door to door sales one) and it reduced our premium $7 per year....

Hey Stanglover I was thinking the same thing and have heard of and thought of these

Dynabolting  bollard to the floor in the doorway and then securing with good quality padlock.

Another trick is to dynabolt D shackle to the floor and then put chain around your axle.

Make up a 'H" frame and place between the door frames of garage and secure with lock to stop the door being pushed in.

All these things will help but if someone wants it bad they will get it.

A bollard is the easiest soloution. Also you can sleep in it with a loaded .357 Magnum. I reckon you will sleep in it the first few nights anyway:w

I've got to go along with IGalop, Number 1 the Mother in law. Works a treat. Scared the hell out of my neighbour when he parked in my drive knowing I was overseas.  She Upped him real big. Good one Granny!

Hey,
Couldn't give a rats arse about the premium as its pretty low as it is.
I was more interested in making sure no one gets the opportunity to take Eleanor away!

Yep! all sound good.
But i'm in a rental, not sure about being allowed to put holes in the concrete!
Also, how hard would it then be and inconvenience for you to take the car in and out?

Ye, Mo, its a rental Unit.
Lock up garage......so i'm sure the first thing i can do is improve the "lock-up" bit on the garage door.
The rest is brick so no probs there.

Hi Bas,
Pending on the type of door on the garage you could also drill through the door edge into concrete.
Mine goes down about 4 inches or so ... its a pain for me but who cares.
The important thing is too slow them down or atleast have too make alot of noise getting it out.
Bollards also work a treat ! VP01 will most likely end up with one as well ... not that he realises anyway.

Cheers, :(

always take your key with you, use club lock, wheel clamps and anything else just to slow them down.

that's all you can do, if they want it bad enough they will get it unless your there. if you go on holidays leave it with someone. all been said before but ti thought they were good when i read them

Last time I went on holidays I fitted this neat padlock to the doors, They didnt even try to pinch it!

Or, park it in my garage;  I'm sure MustangNut and jusTANG will help me in keeping an eye on it.  Can never be too careful and we can alternate which lockup it goes to, from one side of town to the other....

Sorry mate I wasn't talking about lowering your insurance. I was pointing more to fact insurance companies have statistics on the effectiveness of specific types of security. You can reverse engineer what  they think are the most effective methods by how much they lower your risk profile. If an insurance company thinks it is effective then it is.

cheers

As the Mustang Blitz crew can attest to, I have a greyhound that doesn't take a backward step.  Some might think impractical but believe me some would think twice about hopping our fence. :*
