302 BLOCKS HOW STRONG ??????
« on: June 14, 2008, 10:28:35 am »
Ok I've been hearing around the traps that the 302 windsor blocks ( late model ) 1990 onwards.... roller blocks are only good for roughly 500hp at the flywheel with a stud girdle .
Does anyone know weather this is true ;w

I have heard similar, I wouldn't use a factory block, given the choice, anyway.
I would buy a Motown or Dart block in 8.7" deck height, and build a 289 size 3800+ cube engine, or step up to a 351w sized 9.5" deck block, and build a 427 - 460 cube motor. I wouldn't mess with a 8.2" block, or a standard ford block, given the choice.
I regret not doing it in mine, I bought the stroker first, and had to go very long stroke.
69mach1 has a 427cube small block, he probably has a 4.17" stroke, with 4" bore, but with aftermarket blocks, you can go 4.125" bore, and shorter stroke, and keep the revability AND cubes!

I went with the 9.5" DART block, 4.125"bore and 4.0" SCAT crank, engine makes good torque and HP.

mmmm..... thats what I missed out on, silly me bought the stroker kit first....

You still have room to bore further, and stroke longer.... my brother has 460 cubes in his windsor ;x

My brother bought the World 460 short, and is going to change pistons and fit a set of AFD's, and run methanol injection for a drag motor. The pistons aren't world class, but would be OK in a streeter.

I bought my stroker kit thru Haddad Race Cars, and got a Forged steel Scat Crank, Steel H beams, and Arias pistons for about $3500. I could have bought the cast crank (a friend has one in his Cortina street car, runs 9.0's on street radials, should be running 8.60's with tuning) and cheaper pistons for a lot less.
