Had an email from Ford yesterday to tell me that my Mustang had been built and had just left Baltimore on the "Tamerlane RO RO Cargo". It actually left Baltimore last year and is in Brisbane pilotage waters as I type this. ETA in Melbourne is forenoon 26 Jan. Looks like Ford is a little behind the times. I should tell them that the ship is called "Tamerlane" and that RO RO Cargo simply refers to a roll on roll off cargo vessel class. Amateurs 😙
That is interesting.
After an email campaign from my wife that must have bordered on stalking, Ford MEB HO called me with an update on my GT ragtop yesterday. It was apparently built on 11 Dec. got on a train on Jan 4th for a 14 day journey to Baltimore, where it takes another 20 days to give it some anti corrosion spray, a wash, and a plastic wrap, before a 35 day cruise to Parramatta.
Which raises a couple of questions.
What was it doing between Dec 11th and Jan 4th?
How does it take 14 days on a train to get to Baltimore? I suspect a fit guy could walk it faster than that.
If they are washing it there, why is my dealer charging a thousand dollars to wash it again when it gets here?
And, given the weather in Baltimore, they had better have filled the radiator with anti-freeze AND remembered to put the roof up!!
