« on: June 10, 2015, 06:52:13 pm »
Hi gents

Was told today by my engine builder that my distributor vacuum has a hole in it and he can't source one.

.
you dont reweally need it . . you can just disconnect it and drive without it until you get one.

buy an adjustable one . . there are two from different mfg's

standard motor products . . p/n VC31

borg warner . . . . . . . . . . . . p/n V311

THE VC31 IS AVAILABLE FROM ROCK AUTO IN THE US FOR $18.00 USD . . THEY WILL ALSO SHIP.

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/catalogframe.php

summit racing also has it for $22.00 . . buy it from them and buy a distributor advance spring kit p/n 925d . . the distributor has a light and a heavy spring . . remove the heavy spring and install one new spring . . set your initial timing to 8 - 10 degrees btdc if your cam is nearly stock.

i told you exactly what you should do . . this will give you the best performance pout of your engine . . if you buy one that is non adjustable, you cant change your distributor springs because it will probably give you too much advance . . it depends a little on your particular engine build that we have no idea what you are doing because you refuse to tell us for some reason . . EVERYTHING in an engine is interconnected.

Moe thanks does this suit my 260 dist?

it will fit but it is not adjustable and will cost you more than an adjustable one from a big name company.

burnsons or supercheap parts might have it

How is this one says its adjustable

if youve got an autolite or motorcraft dist. i think that should be fine as a standard unit.
or do as shaunp suggested with the link he provided and get a price to rebuild yours, cant hurt

lol, that is ridiculous . . nowhere in that link does is say it is a factory ford unit because it most certainly us NOT . . also, that is one of the two that i already posted . . i know this for a FACT because those are the only two in the entire world that are adjustable . . i know this for a FACT too because i do this for a living and have been for over 35 years . . i was also partners in one of the biggest mustang shops in the western us and we sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of parts a year.

if you want to pay $59.00 for one plus another $26.00 for shipping instead of $18.00 for the exact same one one and maybe $15.00 shipping go right ahead . . i get the feeling that you seem to think i have absolutely no idea what i'm talking about so feel free to spend around $40.00 more than you need to if you want, it's not my money.

Hi Mate,

check vpw.com.au - they have the parts you need by the looks, otherwise eagleautoparts.com.au, both here in VIC but should get in a few days to your builder.
