Best Edelbrock Manifold
« on: November 25, 2014, 09:29:40 am »
I'm looking to replace my stock manifold for an Edelbrock for my stock 302 (600 holley).

Any particular one I should use?

Two choices really . For a dead stock engine but with the 600 Holley the edelbrock performer . Next that is the next up is the edelbrock performer RPM .  It you want to upgrade to extractors etc later I think I would go the RPM .

Sorry I forgot to mention I recently put on Patriot shorties 1 5/8.

So something like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-289-302-Windsor-Edelbrock-Performer-RPM-Intake-Manifold-ED7121-/281493843591?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item418a572e87

Remember its in US dollars, so you might say about $50, but the Australian one will be delivered quicker, and what about warranty and quality problems. Who do you talk to in the US? Some call centre person who couldn't give a rats about your concerns. As always... buyer BEWARE !

It'll end up around $290 AUD with the dollar where it is today

but the Australian one will be delivered quicker

Not true at all, I've had stuff turn up within 5 days of payment.

If there is any issue you deal with Paypal. Who most often side with the buyer so there is very little risk of losing your money

As always... buyer BEWARE !

Exactly the same as dealing with anyone. Even one of your mates.

The local one is from Eagle - USAspecials is their ebay store. Dunno where you are but they are in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. You could go get it from them and save the postage. I know from experience if you take a print of their ebay offer in they'll give it to you for the same price over the counter.

Then the next in line is the RPM Airgap ,works about the same as the RPM but has raised runners that will keep the fuel cool . Sometimes it keeps the fuel to cold  when 1st starting when  living. In colder areas like down south and looks more of a performance looking intake .

I can't have the 'air gap' as it will push my 'shaker' to high.

I bought this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDELBROCK-7121-SMALL-BLOCK-FORD-PERFORMER-RPM-INTAKE-MANIFOLD-/121487211495?pt=Race_Car_Parts&hash=item1c4933bbe7&vxp=mtr.

Should have it in about a week. I can wait.  :evilone:

What about a Stealth one instead if they still make them...

The RPM is a good choice and I have one on my 66 coupe and one on my 70 Mach 1  which is stock other than a holley but it did make the shaker sit a little higher on the 70 .

Worst case I'll reduce the height of the air filter if needed.

Once RMP is installed, is there any tuning that needs to happen? Or just install and away I go!

Will I notice a difference performance wise?

No retune needed . Will need a new square bore Holley base gasket ,and a set of manifold carby studs and intake gaskets . Maybe a couple of brass fittings for vacuum fittings . Performance wise very little if you had a square bore  4B. intake before . You may need new intake manifold bolts also .

Yeah I have a 600 holly 4B. I wasn't expecting a huge difference with the new manifold, but was expecting some positive impact.

This looks to sit higher than stock, so will have slightly longer runners,  would expect an all round performance  improvement.

performer RPM comes with a heap of fittings so chances are youll be ok for connections.
FYI this manifold is edelbrock's direct replacement for the cobra manifold.
and i would use new mounting bolts as well, only because you never know if some clown in the past has torqued them down by 'feel' (ie. 2 x recommended ft/lbs...)
heres mine propping up the carby.

when a 3 month engine rebuild turns into 3 year bare metal resto.
you get that .....

I thought I might of got the hardware with it........ I guess I'll wait and see.

Did you notice better performance after replacing the Cobra manifold with the Edelbrock?

What Edelbrock is it?

I'm keen to do that soon, but baby steps (keep the mrs happy).

I can't do it myself and I'd need about $2,500 to do that. Labor & parts.

$2,500 for cam and install Hmm .  If you were to put a flat tappet hyd cam and lifters in and going to make it worth while $2,500 all day . Cam, lifters ,timing chain set ,gaskets ,valve springs etc etc plus labour . No use putting a little baby cam in ,if your going to do it you do it right with the right cam . Then if its an auto you need a hi stall convertor then a shift kit   :thud:   Then if you wanted a roller cam and lifters   :thud: again .

i had stock A code (4bl) manifold, performance is same down low but much better mid to high rev range.

What Edelbrock is it?

as per my picture, performer RPM is embossed on it....
and no an after market manifold wont come with fasteners, they leave that choice up to the discerning punter.
just get ARP intake fasteners.

You have to pull the intake to fit a cam, its a sensible time to do it. Small flat tappet wont need springs just lifter and a chain. something like a Comp cams 258 XE

Sure, but will still cost a bit when you don't do it yourself .
