Hi everyone.
I have just started a restoration of a 67 Coupe and am looking for any advice that's out there.
I am stripping the car back to a shell and back to bare metal.
I am looking for advice on the best quality replacement panels for my build available in Australia or the USA.
I will post some pics as I go and hope to become an active member of the forum.

Hi all.
Thanks for the replies.
I am going for the stock deluxe coupe look with a fully modified running gear and drive line. I would like people to look at it an think it's a nicely restored car but underneath it's all modern.
I am aiming for a Total Control Products rear and a Heidts Pro G Front suspension.
I will be converting it to RHD which I know will have some people screaming out No!!!. But I am building a car to drive and enjoy. The car is no Shelby Classic but it will be a classic for Me.

The car is totally stripped and went off to the Soda Blasters this morning so I am awaiting it's return to see if any surprises appear.
I have full access to a body shop and some experienced panel beaters for advice. Please feel free to add ideas as I feel you can never have enough knowledge.
This is going to be a long journey!!!

Craig,

If your panels are repairable, keep them. My painter convinced me to change one of my guards instead of repairing it. As it turned out, we wasted many more hours trying to make the repro panel fit. So much for saving time & money!

Before you get carried away with the running gear make sure you can register it with all the mods 1st .

Craig,
The tcp gear rhd rack is the how bolts straight in. Designed by an Ozzie......if possible buy a donor car for the driveline, you can use a lot of the car and run the vehicle prior to pulling the driveline out.
You can run the oem efi as well as air con....

welcome craig , glenn 70 has good advice, make sure that all the mods you want to do are ok'd , either way suspension mods will have to be engineer approved . good luck and enjoy your build

Thanks everyone for the advice.
I plan on involving an engineer from go and make sure he,s across everything prior and during the build . This should ease the pain that can be, registration.
I,ll give everyone an update when the car comes back from the soda boasters,

Welcome Craig! I don't have the technical advice of some on here, but my 67 coupe rebuild is almost done and let me assure nearly everything had to be done, more than happy to share any of the dramas etc I came across with the 67, looking fwd to seeing yours come along

If you are getting it soda blasted, make sure you clean every nook and cranny, soda is very corrosive and will lead to rust in your seams.

I know I said Soda blast but the media they use is actually powdered glass. I looked at all sorts of paint stripping techniques before deciding and this one was recommended for automotive restorations. It is less harsh on the metal and will not leave any contaminants like Soda does.
I should have it back next week so I'll report on the finish and give the guys a mention who are doing the work.

After I get the car back I will be spending some time on planning out my project as close to the finished product as I can.
I'm sure the plan will deviate as I go along but I think having a good base line to start with is the way to go.

I would love to hear of any dramas you encountered on your build sea67n and see any pictures you may have.

Talk to Earl Gillcrest or John Greene if you need an engineer. John is a Mustang Expert, be prepared for him to tell you are wasting your time with TCP etc, he will tell you to use an XF box its still the best way to do them. If you plan to drive it hard ie with a big engine or track days, you may find the TCP rack will get tight spots in it. I've got 2 1/2 done 67 restos here, both RHD. Happy for you to look.

This really does show up everything from the goo, the bad and the down right ugly.
The guy that did it were great and new everything about blasting cars for restorations.
They are called A1 Auto Blasting out at Yamanto near Ipswich in Qld.

Overall I was really pleased. It showed up all the bodgy repairs from before and any rust that needed attending.
It also revealed the original VIN that was hidden under a skim of bog and paint. Turns out it was a San Jose built car which may attribute to the chassis rails and torque boxes being in such good shape.

Areas that are going to need work are around both rear qtrs. and the left hand front drip rail.
The drip rail is a worry as I know it attaches under the roof after the A pillar. Mine is only rotted along about 70% of the A pillar. I am hoping to get one and cut out the piece and replace just that section.
Does anyone have any good suggestions?

well looks like some late nights coming up craig, mate all i can say is plan and do lots of homework on whats available in parts etc which is huge.
one thing dont cut anything till you check that the body is square , looking at that rear qtr it may have taken a hit so if it has, it may have pushed things out , old saying measure twice , cut once .

Does anyone have a chassis jig for my 67 Coupe that they don't need anymore.
It will save me building one and give you a little more space.
