67 console restomods

Hi guys!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've got my hands on both a 67 roof console and floor console.  Neither one of them are in great condition, but the plan is to use them as templates to create truly restomod consoles.

The car is antique white, with a black vinyl top, and EVERYTHING black inside.

Now I expect to cop some flack for this... but my intent is to keep the original lines of the floor console, but add in new features, including:
* White trim
* 2Din Stereo/GPS hidden behind a mini roller door (have a retro stereo in the original place)
* Cup holders
* L&R speakers (pointing into the footwells)
* Storage (somewhere to chuck phones/wallets etc)
* Piping to run aircon to the rear seats

And for the roof console:
* Trimmed in white
* LED map/courtesy lights (doors open) including a white opaque panel that runs the length of the console that lights up
* LED map/reading lights for the rear seats.

Like I said - I don't expect this to be too popular amongst traditionalists... But there are a lot of shortcomings in the existing consoles (ashtrays, belt holders) that I think can now be done better.

Whilst my current humphugger fills some of my needs, it just isn't enough...

Thoughts, criticism and flamage - welcome!

Oh - and I will post pics!

No one here will give you a hard time mate. Even the purists here appreciate a nice restomod & ultimately it is your ride so knock yourself out:thumb:

Check out the stuff available from these guys http://www.mustangstofear.com/category_interior.php They may have what you are after or at least it will give you some ideas. We have one of their consoles going in a build & I have the one piece hoodlining & console & door trims here to go in my car. The quality of their interior stuff is top notch. Look forward to seeing your pics.

Aircon to the rear seats is a mint idea!

I built my own console for my Eleanor .Put a bit of shape into it as well as compartment for storage, CD player, A/C controls,power window switches. Windscreen washer switch.spotlight switch.
Covered in matching interior material its much more practical and I have a left arm rest as well.
So go for it !

I'll be a little while...

Decided to put the new aircon in first and then build the console (floor) around it.

But will DEFO be happy snapping throughout the process!

Needs to be up and running for a wedding at the end of March

I did some cutting last night for the roof console.

Knowing that the roof console don't have 'square' edges per se and slope towards the center, I've cut two pairs of 'sides'.

One pair cut square (screwed together for matching pair), one pair cut at 30degrees.  Both pairs will need a bit of sanding to make smooth.

The straight pair are perfectly matched owing to being screwed together for cutting.  The sloped pair, whilst close, have some noticable differences at this stage.

I may end up using a gentle router on the straight pair to give the slope cut.

Pics to follow over the weekend!!

I have passed to CPU, just a few minutes ago.

He is far more efficient at such things and will do it a lot quicker.

Give him a couple of days and I bet it will be done sooner.
