Black 1969 Mach 1
« on: February 15, 2012, 06:47:43 pm »
Well, the hunt is finally over and I am now the proud owner of a 1969 Mach 1. After 8 months of trawling online ads, both here and the US, this one caught my eye a few weeks ago:

I contacted Matt from Shermatt International immediately, the ad had been on his Facebook page for only an hour or two. After a couple of weeks of Matt dealing with the seller, trying to organize an inspection, he was off with trailer in tow to Alabama. My main criteria since I started looking was that the body work had to be absolutely tip top..... and boy did Matt deliver. He was so impressed with the car that he had organized a professional photo shoot before he even had it home, taking an extra couple of days out of his and Sheri's time. So here's a few photos out of the many I've been given, big thanks to Sheri for posing in the freezing cold.

The car is missing much of the Mach 1 interior trim but is at Sun State Mustangs having this remedied while we wait for import approval. The FMX may need a little love as it slips going into third gear and it needs a 9 inch put into it. Matt and Sheri have been putting a lot of time into this and I can not thank them enough for everything they've done and are still doing.:drunk: Cheers to you both. This photo is my pick of the bunch, thankyou also to the photographer who did all of this just for a hot meal:

And Matt, I believe I owe you a beer for this one:

I hope you all enjoy the pics.

Sensational (tho i am a little bias towards black 69's). Was the stripe only just added, i don't see it on the first 2 pics.

@ Ash, yes it's a 351. When I started looking I was after a Candy Apple Red one, but after joining here and seeing the pics of your car  I decided I'd be just as happy with the Acapulco Blue. I always seem to end up with black, this is my third black car in a row. Once you go black, you can never go back.

@ Yellow66, the original ad had pictures of the car in various stages. The car had the stripe when picked up. You have a great looking car too mate.

@ JimNiki, I see a mood change coming....

@ Mwizz, Matt had been working on the seller for a few weeks, I'm glad I pulled the trigger early.

@ Martini, the mustang attained perfection in 1969.

I was sold on the black with re stripe combo. But after seeing seeing all these photos of yours with the gold stripe, it looks great too.  I really like with the black, how the smaller chrome or detailed parts stand out more.

Do you know the actual name of the black?

How long till it hits our sure, bet you're counting the sleeps anyway! :smile01:

I really like the gold stripe too Ash. Paint code is in the original ad:

Quote
Paint is K99 Black-Chroma Base and Dupont paint, Mach 1 stripes, Black interior with red stripe on seats, rebuilt 351 windsor4-barrel, 40-over Flat top pistons, 490 high Lift Cam and more, FMX auto, Shaker scoop, twin system, fully restored throughout with mostly original steel. Brand new 20" BOSS wheels and tyres.
Quote

I believe K99 is just a generic black, nothing special about it.

I just love the aggressive front end design of the '69.  That is one awesome looking ride.
If it's worth owning, it's had a song written about it.

the Rims and tyres make it jump !!!!
Its funny how quick kids learn to drive a car, yet fail to understand a lawnmower.

Thanks Meaty.
I agree about the wheels, 67fasty. It never would have crossed my mind to put modern wheels on a '69 but these ones I like.

Thanks Rocket, I'm pretty happy with it. If Matt's impressed at the restoration I'm sure it is a ripper.

Well after 3 months or so the car is finally sitting in my garage. I am VERY happy with the car. It is exactly as Matt has told me it was and I can now see why he had a bit of a soft spot for it. Here's a quick video while I upload some photos. Will take some better ones when I get a chance.... and when it's not dark. Might need some brighter lights for the garage... :smile01:

Fantastic to have the new baby at home...  :omg:
Like any new parent, will you be sleeping with her for the next few nights until she settles in???
