Hi Tim, We are preparing three cars to make the trip over. Only about 6 weeks to go.

Should be quite a large convoy of South Aussies heading over.

Have checked out the temperatures for Newcastle in April last year and if the same as last year we should have nice mild weather -

I live in the Hunter and will naturally be there, but take note of Stormin's advice, even explore on your own, too. Morpeth, the oldest village in NSW is an excellent afternoon out and is close to Maitland.
See Y'all over here in April

Morpeth is closed on Easter Friday - not even the baker will make any dough!

I think Morpeth was on the agenda but had to be taken out because of the close down on the Friday.

Saturday is agood cruise to the winery country but there is a lot more to see and enjoy ... well worth the time to do the trip.

Yep.
Hopefully joining up with the other VIC's going up.
Can anybody suggest some accomodation in or near the Sydney CBD with parking for the trip home.
Might have look at the place while we're there.

Roger.

You must have a hole in your tank ! The least I get out of any of mine including the 347 is 18mpg. My old 68 coupe with 302 and 350 holley gave low to middle 20's. when I had her and it's present owner can't believe what he gets.

Ha Ha, I recon if I can get a 3.1 diff center in it, to get the revs down to around 2500, and find sombody to tune the 750 D/P. (seems rich on the idle circut) I might get to 18. These 428's like the fuel!!

Now THERE is an offer that is just great!

Maybe a line of a hundred or so Mustangs might cruise down your street on the way to the Hunter Valley.  You can tell the neighbours a couple of mates might drop by and apologise for the noise in advance :smile01:

Maybe we all just park out front of the local pub and enjoy a counter lunch with the locals?

I am sure the rev heads in Maitland would love it just as much as the Muzzy owners would.

:rain:

Only 2 weeks before the SA contingent depart for Newcastle.

Been checking out the RTA Live Traffic site for road closures - there are plenty of flooded roads throughout NSW. Check it out -
http://livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/desktop.html

You might think... don`t worry it is still 2 weeks away, but the floodwaters will continue to move downstream. Wagga was flooded 2 weeks ago and the floodwater is presently peaking at Hay which is tipped to remain flooded for several weeks by which time the peak will be around Balranald.

The roads are even flooded out Broken Hill and Cobar way. Bugger!

Looks like our best bet maybe via Stawell, Bendigo, Shepparton, Albury. Anybody been up the Hume to Sydney over the last few days?
Looks like even Gundagai and Goulburn are flooded - but hopefully passable?

Also checked out the 28 Day Rain Forecast for Newcastle -
  http://weather.ninemsn.com.au/long-range-forecast/28-day-rain/nsw/hunter
Rain is forecast for the week leading up to the Nationals, but thankfully only a medium chance of rain on the Sunday.

We are definitely driving up, just a question of which route to take.

Make sure to pack your umbrellas folks, and make sure to have good wipers and washers on your cars.

Can`t wait to hit the road. Nice to be staying by one of the Leagues Clubs too. No need to worry about drinking and driving. Going to be sinking a lot of that Tooheys New!

try a nice counter lunch at The Patonga Pub or even The Entrance
wish i could join you lot but unfortunately some of us have the plaesure of working
have a great time

would have loved to have been there. seeing the cars lined up on the foreshore within walking distance of the brewery.... what a great day!

nearly convinced the wife to go visit her parents over Easter (Muswellbrook), but we ran out of available funds...

Looking forward to seeing some pics!

Cheers,

Tim

An other one from SA. Not concourse I know but a five speed behind a 427 returns good fuel economy on a long run. If you gotta stay in 2nd (50k)  3rd(60k) or 4th (80k) well you heard about not being able to pass petrol  stations.
Cya there

Thanks for all the tips. I reckon we will have some pleasant 1/2 day trips while we are there.

Brumby1 are you driving over with the MocaSA crew?

Found out this morning that the Club has the itinery for the trip over all organised including accommodations. Guess i should have checked the emails. First night we are booked at Hay! Haha - have my doubts about that happening, but hope the floodwaters recede beforehand. I know how much time and effort is put into organising these things.

Second night at Bathurst. That should be a blast with a couple of laps around Mt Panorama planned. :burnout:

Heres hoping everything dries out a bit!

:thumb: Yeh we re going to go with the rest of you.  Hope to get all the way this year. Hay may be fun if we are still going that way.  Are they going to remove speed restrictions at Bathurst?  WOT down conrod. Talk about an adrenaline rush  Last time I drove it The missus had a lap and was calmly doing 120 in an 80 k zone. Better slow down says I.   "Its a race track"  she said . So I pointed out the facts to her.  She slowed down.

Brumby1, Sounds like Mrs H is a bit of a leadfoot. Good Stuff.

Was just talking with Ron H ( he said to say hi ) and he mentioned there are speed limits around the mountain. Bugger - was looking forward to checking out my top speed.

See you at Tailem bend.:burnout:

The boys in blue love people checking their top speed down conrad ... the radar just grabs ya where it hurts in the hip pocket nerve.  They plant themselves out there every time the state coffers need topping up.

Mind you, these days just driving anywhere runs the risk of being pinged if you go over the limit, just not worth it.

mussy65, Thanks for the warning. Have already donated plenty into the coffers. Running low on demerits now so need to be careful. Besides that, the handbrake in the seat beside me will make sure there are not too many mad moments.:smile01::smile01::nono::nono:

Well come on guys...... Anybody up to date with current road conditions in NSW?
