Hi Angelo, Glad you are enjoying the Thread.

The fact you are a bit emotional tells me just how disappointed you were with the previous attempt to fit the quarter panel skins. Very happy that we can now have a small part in helping you achieve your dream.

You might enjoy these next photos:smile02:

Walked into the workshop early this arvo to be confronted by this -

I thought bloody hell..... more new regulations:shrug:, but was happy at what was behind the screen. Your LHS quarter no longer looks like this -

Luke has welded the quarter panel skin on -

Then he ground down the welds -

Had to then leave to sort another problem... Bloody trees -

Luke will have already begun finishing both quarters.

Hi Jack, Wow!!! That is a real beauty. Looks very original.

Have you started her up yet and taken her for a spin?

How did you get the car to Adelaide

Started lots of blue smoke . Not taken for a spin yet
Came over on the back of a truck "Car carriers"

Carby leaks like a sieve
Oil pressure gauge showing 0. However no rattles from lifters so theres hope there. Virtually zero rust and looks dead straight to me.
lots of paperwork. Engine worked in 1989 20 thou off heads ported and polished and intake matched to heads hot hydraulic cam.
paperwork says 50K miles now 55K miles so 5K or 105K done since.
Last rego in Nevada 2006

Hi Jack, Just wanted to put a photo of your car on this page.

Boys at work all had a look at the photo today. They all think it looks fantastic and are asking for more photos.

Sounds like you might just need rings and bearings, also rebuild the carby. Maybe will not be very expensive. I had the impression you can do the mechanical work yourself? That would be a big win for you.

Think that car was a ripper buy!

By the way - Ron`s Mach1 is running sweet again. Problem had to do with Distributor. He is still waiting for a new indicator switch to fix the back lights.

Hey Rod
Few more pics for you

Brake vacuum can

Still laying a huge smoke screen.  With cylinder pressures between 212 and 220 lbs/sq in I think the rings are ok.  Disconnected auto gearbox modulator line made no difference.  More investigaion required.

Runs and idles nicely.

Jack, Could you be so lucky that it is only valve stem seals causing the blue smoke? If the car has been sitting for a long time maybe they became brittle and cracked. Have the oil and filter been changed yet?

Thanks for the photos. Interior looks quite original, the floor looks to be rust free. The engine bay needs a bit of TLC so probably best to remove drivetrain to do floor and engine bay. Also fit the larger size radiator.

Might pay you to check the fuel line too - looks a bit kinked in the photo.

I reckon you have a potential Gold winner on your hands.

Congratulations.

Oil etc not changed yet.... Filter has plastic casing .. will wreck it when I get to remove it
Car idles with both mixture screws fully closed..........does that mean it uses no fuel at idle?????? :smile01:
Now have oil pressure    sender cactus
Will be bringing in red car for quote as soon as I can

Dale
If you read this any chance of another 427   I messed the other a bit

Have not posted a lot since returning from Newcastle as we have been busy on other projects.
The Red Mach1 is now all finished and tucked away - not bringing it out in the current wet weather.

Here are some projects underway in the car workshop. First pic is a Variety Bash car that we are preparing for a local business it is a ZD? Fairlane. Our brief was to strip the old layers of paint ( it had about 10 layers ), cut out all the rust and weld patches in, then respray the car - with the proviso that we did not do too good a job. They want the car to still look like a bash car ie leave some of the smaller old dents and go easy on the spray putty! Here it is -

They started to fit some signage to it yesterday. I hope they absolutely plaster the car with them!

Work is also underway on the restoration of a 78 XC V8 Falcon ute. After taking it back to bare metal we did not find much rust. The car will be painted in Cobra colours, which are white with blue LeMans type stripes. Should look good when completed -

Mick has almost completed the body repairs to Angelo`s Grande. Should be able to spray primer tomorrow, then Hi Build on Monday -

It will be looking good real soon Angelo.

Hi Mark, Yes... Mick is an old school panel man. Jeremy says he is slow.... but i say he is fussy. Great scenario in my opinion. Mick`s panel beating skills with Luke`s painting skills mean we will turn out some real beauties.

That enough proof for ya?:therethere:
:rol::rol::rol::thumb:

Actually,Pinto Pete got it right. The 400 Cobras were painted blue first, then taped up for the stripes, followed by white paint over the top of the blue.

why thanks Rocket,  :smile01:  how about this then, apart from #1 the cars up to #30 were built with all the goodies to go racing and were 1sec faster down the quarter than the subsequent cars...

Nice pics Rod but it seems one is missing.
O yeh memory tells me cobras came white with blue go fast stripes.
The 69 has given up smoking, the front suspension is all over my garage and it has another torque converter with a change of oil and filter in the fmx however I think its all a waste of money and it will have to go to the trans hospital. The fluid was brown. Will fire up tomorrow and try it out.

Hey Jack, Good to see you have cured the transmission problem - that slipped harmonic balancer will get you everytime. Seem to remember another timing issue just recently
:smile01:

Angelo, Your Grande is now about ready for topcoats. It has been blocked back several times and now has the final primer coat applied.
Only needs a minor scuff before painting.
But it will be a couple of weeks before we can paint it. The owner of the XC Ute is anxious that we get his car ready. Can`t really argue because he has been waiting patiently for about six months.
Luke says it is good to let the Grande sit in primer for a couple of weeks anyway.
Here are the latest pics -
