The question I ask is why wouldn’t you do the same thing here at least you could follow the build.
If you had a problem you may have a better chance of getting it fixed.

That is a problem, if there's something wrong does it get fixed here? You wouldn't want to send it back for repairs, etc.

There are also some very good buys in the USA although they are more 'second hand' and may not be to your exact spec.

I would think its pretty obvious economics......as good a job as can be done here ( Australia ) look at what they would be paying as an houghly rate, over there. I know what my paint job cost and there was no body work apart from welding up badge holes etc...........You could not build the same cars here doing the same work & using the same components and arrive at the same selling price...not possible!

The obvious answer to the question asked re: getting the work done here in oz-is purely cost and its not about starting with a good car because until you have stripped it you are not 100% sure how good your acquisition is anyhow a new mustang shell can be sourced for $15to$20K. The costs are what you put into the car from the body to the bitumen and the only way I could build what I am getting from classic speed is by attempting the build myself here in Oz of which i don't have the time hence a paid build.

It is a complete rotisserie build with everything apart from the body & the block being new.

As for following the build, that can be done by visiting at anytime and is encouraged by classic speed and they send pictorials of the build as it progresses. They guarantee State compliance and a 12 month drive train guarantee.

I want a particular colour and so far they have been extremely helpful in trying to achieve that colour, sending swatches for my approval of which I haven't been forthcoming yet. I have changed a couple of my requests to date without any difficulty.

So far (apart from parting with the cash) it has been a pleasant experience and I am looking forward to my first visit in May where I will try out a Classic Speed car on the race track at Clark Airport in the Philippines.

I'm as comfortable doing the transaction there as I would be doing it here particularly due to the fact that I am dealing with an Australian Company.

I know that this thread has been quiet for a while but I thought I'd drop you guys a line to let you know that I spent my Saturday morning test driving some of the cars from Classic Speed Inc.

The two standouts were a '65 GT350 tribute, and the other a '67 Convertible.

Both the cars were fantastic, and the build quality was evident.

They have offered me the opportunity to take one of the cars for a day or two to get a real feel for it before I shell out $80-100K which is greatly appreciated.

I'll definitely keep you up to date on how it all goes.

Classic Speed had four cars entered in the Newcastle Nationals last Easter.  I believe only three made it to the show as the fourth was held up in being delivered into Australia.

They were also present at the All American Show at CAstle Hill last January.  They will probably be in attendance again at Castle Hill on 20 January 2013 - for Sydney members, put this day into your diary as it is one of the best show of American Muscle in the twelve month calendar (end of advertisement!).

The fellas running Classic Speed are local residents of Sydney and have an office here ... I think in the northern beachside suburbs and usually have a few vehicles available for viewing.

I have gone through the entire process with Classic Speed. I now have the car I ordered back in Dec 2011. It's ended up costing me a lot more than originally predicted and it has to have a complete respray of the paint so I wouldnt exactly say its been a great experience to date. I do love the car tho despite the teething problems and things still to be rectified.

Is this at their cost?

It should be if they didn't deliver to what they specified.

Yes off course, but I paid absolute top $$ for their absolute top of the line car (GT500) and I expected everything amazing, not to hand it back for 3+ months to redo it.

I ordered a mustang from classic speed. The car was delivered 14months late and has only been driven a total of 5 days over 5 months and each time a failure has occurred. The car was in Perth and getting repaired each time but very time I picked it up something else failed. The latest after transporting the car to me at my expense now being 23 months after being ordered the. Air con did not work has a leak somewhere so gas goes. To top it off after 135km the handbrake system failed from a bolts come it in the drum set up and destroying the brakes and damaging the drum. This is despite them being told that the handbrake is not working properly last time it went back to them. My advice is DO NOT buy a car from these people as they over promise and under deliver every time. If you are in WA forget they have no support over here and they can never get on a plane to come and fix it. My car was a 40th birthday present to myself and I now am turning 42 in March 2013 and still have not driven my car without a problem. Basically the company has no customer service and low care factor. I have a $140k piece of metal instead of my dream car. Buy somewhere local so you can always have the face to face with the bloke that built he car or be prepared to be constantly disappointed if you by from Classic Speed.

That's a real shame JT71, sorry to hear it. There are some very good people in W.A. who specialise in Mustangs if you want it fixed properly. You shouldn't have to, I know but at least you'll be able to enjoy your car.

As for the Unique Cars mag and Classic Speed "infotisements" I got sick of reading the promotion for Classic Speed thinly disguised as the mock GT350 build. Obviously they're doing a deal with each other, that's fine but I prefer to read genuine, informative articles without a bias to them when I'm paying for the privelege.

Most magazine articals are infomercials. I could have editorials in Mags claiming we are better than the second coming of Jesus if I would build their story cars for free. Knowing what I do now I take most of the crap in car mags with a grain of salt. Its all about the bucks.

It is a shame about the cars from classic speed that havent gone as planned. Building high end cars is an expensive proposition. I thought they may have found the holy grail by doing out of the Philippines. If they persevere & get their processes sorted it still may be worth revisiting down the track.

JT71, have you got pics of your problems as to help those that are thinking about these cars for the future?   Have you thought about giving the car to someone who knows Mustangs and get them to give it a good check over so that you are not surprised on your next drive?

THese threads are great for buyers, as it gives a true opinion and result.

It would be good to also hear from other owners here in Oz..   :flag:

I have looked at 4 Mustangs that Classic Speed have rebuilt.
One car that was rebuilt around two years ago was average. It was getting problems fixed that Classic missed when the car was rebuilt. Classic paid to fix the problems.
I understand that things have changed in the management and the cars are now coming out with a better
build quality.
Classic had a stand at the Hanging Rock car show this year and the two cars on display looked really good.
The question I ask is why wouldn’t you do the same thing here at least you could follow the build.
If you had a problem you may have a better chance of getting it fixed.
Use someone like St Mary’s smash they could do the same thing for the same sort of dollars if you buy a good car to start with.

Having looked at C S 's cars and doing them up here, I'm inclined to agree with you.  Get a good quality car to start with and make sure the job is done properly here in Australia.  Though, it might be worth keeping an eye on what products Classic Speed use, since they research, and use, the products that will cause them the least amount of trouble.
If it's worth owning, it's had a song written about it.

Classic Speed guys will be at the All American Show at Castle Hill on 20 Junuary 2013.

They are usually located down near the presentation stage between the Corvettes and Mustang display areas ... western side.

Come along to AAD, always a great display of over 600 cars and some trucks.

I had a good look at their cars at Newcastle nationals 2012, hmm expensive and not well detailed in my opinion, the use of body filler to correct body issues was obvious, a lot like watching a Boyd Coddington DVD...

My Opinion........Get in done in Aus and monitor what your getting! :flag:
