Its funny how quick kids learn to drive a car, yet fail to understand a lawnmower.

I thought things were different with respect to s/h parts, no GST.

Don't pay GST on s/h here, so why on imports?

Used parts attract GST if purchased from a business registered for GST (over $50K turnover), such as a wrecking yard.

No GST applies to random used parts sold by private vendors.

mmm, yeah, true.  Labour pulled the tax free status of my foreign employment income from under me lats year with 6 weeks notice (read 40% drop in income), so I guess I should really be used to bending over and taking it lubeless.

under 1000$aud inc the postage ,,

you should be exempt paying import and gst..

last i heard

Pretty sure if the goods are under $1000aud no GST.
If the goods are over $1000aud they add the freight and then work the GST out on that amount.

Give a Import Broker a call and they can advise.
I bought parts in and the cost was $980aud and $380 in freight and there was no GST or duty.
I also bought in $11k worth of parts and paid duty and GST. Different parts attracted different duty % some attracted 0% others 5% and 10%. My parts were all new though.
There is also a form (can't remember the name of it) that the broker should tell you about for parts made in the US. It allows for 0% duty only on parts made in US.
What sort of $ are you talking about?

If the total of the parts come to more than $1000 AUS (incl shipping) then you will have to pay duty, etc. Ask the person you are buying from to split the packages, invoices, shipping etc & send them a week or 2 apart to lessen any risk of having to pay duty. If they are large totals .. then just bend over & say a big thankyou to the ATO:smile01:

Scott. That $360 would be broken down on Schenkers Tax Invoice as follows:
Customs Agency fee  : $125
Terminal Fee              : $33
ADF                            : $38.50
Cargo Automation     :  $20
Int Terminal Fee         : $65
Border Security          : $25
Additional entry lines : $?
Cartage                     : $?
Local Fuel Surcharge : $?

If you look at your last page of the Import declaration page you will probably find you paid
Total Duty : $0
Total GST  : $0

If you give Schenker a call they can tell you what tax and duty you will have to pay.
When ordering from the US ask if the freight is to your door or to the airport.

I've bought heaps from ebay in the US.  Sometimes $3,500 worth and only paid for shipping nothing else.
