priming panels for welding
« on: January 24, 2011, 04:31:26 pm »
This is one for the panel beating painting experts.
I'm about to stitch in new panels in the boot area and need to know if I need to remove the black paint on the new panels or is this paint good enough to prime over the top?
I will be using weld through primer on the lap joints when I spot  weld the tail light panel on.
Can't wait to get this project finished!:therethere:

Any constructive feedback will be most welcome.

Black paint they come with is fine to paint over, but needs a good scotch brite/sand first. Best really to block the panel with some 180/240 dry so you can see, where the little dents are, in any case. Make sure you sand all the panel or the 2k won't stick and you'll get bridging in the tight corners etc.
