Paint repair touchup
« on: March 28, 2010, 02:04:30 pm »
Well I had the cover off of my 66 Mustang convertible today while charging the battery. My wife has opened the door of our other car straight into the left front fender causing a chip to the paintwork down to the bare metal. It is only small but stands out because of the vintage burgundy colour. I need to get this touched up. Is there anyone in Adelaide that can be recommended to do a touch up like this.

Try "Touch Up Guys" if they are in Adelaide, like Melbourne.

But if it's only a tiny chip, try getting a closest matching can of auto spray paint from a Supacheap. Spray a bit into the lid and apply with a small art brush, building up the height with layer on layer.

Oops.

I've been looking at a Zit on Ange's car for some time.

Bad mistake thinking I could squeeze it a few days before the party.

Its a bigger sinking feeling now that its obvious...

No offence taken Justang. I took the Mustang to someone this morning and they have mixed up some paint and will do the job Wednesday. Will update when it is done.

I was put onto a local crash shop who mixed up a nearly perfect match of my colour and also gave me some polish to use when I filled up the chipped section with the paint so that it can smooth it down. I am in the process of applying several coats of the paint before smoothing it down. Hopefully all will go well although I have not done this before.
