Fuses??
« on: March 21, 2010, 09:46:56 pm »
Hi Forum
been away a while......
can anyone tell me where i should find the fuses for a 66 fastback?
my interior lights, radio, and my fog lights have both stopped working and I'm guessing (hoping) that it's just a fuse.

Would a "grant" steering wheel that keeps having the cap pop off cause other things to sort out??

thanks

:] The fuses for my 67 are just above the accelerator pedal (LHD), not sure about the cap popping off.

I think the subject was where to buy the glass fuses. A good spare parts place should sell them still.

The biggest issue is the different lengths of fuses in the Mustang box. It was even a little hard to source them from a non Mustang vendor in the US.

If your horn cap pops off - as mine does - it will short the horn cause it to blow continuously. That can blow the fuse. Happened to me also.

Cheers,
Frank.

Here is a good link showing you the fuse box setup and fuse placement / rating and what they supply protection to

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/attachments/classic-tech/60272d1233360953-1967-mustang-dome-light-67-mustang-fuse-box.pdf

These fuses, except for the 7.5amp fuses in some circumstances can be obtained from places like Autobahn / Repco / AutoOne / Bursons etc...

The 2 14amp fuses are a SFE type and are 27 x 6.3mm in size

The 1 20amp fuse can be replaced with a 3AG type fuse which is 32 x 6.3mm in size

The 2.5amp fuse is a 1AG type fuse which is 16 x 6.3mm in size.

Now the hard one to get as not many people stock this size is the 7.5amp 2AG fuse 22 x 6.3mm in size. When I have trouble locating one of these I will substitute it with a fast blow ceramic fuse (as used in microwave ovens and other electrical appliances) or a quick blow M205 glass fuse. The only issue with this is the size 20 x 5mm. If your fuse clips still have allot of spring in them it will hold this size fuse, if not you may need to bend them together alittle closer with a small flat head screw driver, this will then hold the fuse in place.

Cheers

J1

I needed one of those fuses for the fastback a short while ago.
Autobarn, Bursons and Repco couldn't help me.
Their glass fuses were all too long.

Funny enough, my Dad has lots of odds and ends lying around and guess what -  he had almost the exact ones I needed (Its was about 2 mm too long and I banged each end very lightly with a rubber mallet to compress it slightly)

I bought a pack of 5 x 7.5 amp fuses from Supercheap Auto if you are looking for these.

hitting a fuse with a rubber mallet to make it shorter sounds really dodgy

I am thinking "very gentle tap" with a very small rubber mallet... :(

I agree 100%.
But after trying 3 stores without any luck, and seeing the fuse I end up finding was just a poofteenth to long, I gently, and I mean gently, pursuaded it to fit. (Note, I'd planned to replace it when I was next grabbing some parts from a mustang parts seller). At the time thought, it worked a treat.

Try Ashdowns (autolec supplier) and get the soldered ones not glued.
