« on: March 21, 2010, 09:04:08 pm »
hi, hoping to become a mustang owner very soon.. have found a local car with right hand drive and has full rego, but.. has no Compliance Plates at all and no VIN number.. the rego papers show an engine number and thats it(and thats only 5 digits long).
is this normal? just seems weird to me that theres no plates at all yet its got full rego..btw im in SA and its a 71 fastback
any help or thoughts would be gratefull

Generally wont have a compliance plate as that is an Australian thing and If the car wasnt imported by Ford Australia and converted by their contractor it wont have one.
There should be a VIN on the LHS lower windscreen area and originally the car would have had a sticker with VIN, body style, paint and drive train info on the LH door.
It may be long gone due to repaint or replacement panels though.

Thanks for that.. did look on inside of doors, but expected the vin to be a stamped plate on the inside of the engine bay! didnt even think of windscreen area..so that would be stamped / moulded on the dashboard?

If its a 65 or 66, there will be no VIN on the windscreen/dash area.... only on inner LF guard ....

Yes mate, it was on the door tag.
You should be able to get all that info from Kevin Marty in the form of a report for a minimal cost.
See you at the Nats.
cheers.
