Indicators/Blinkers/Parking lights problem
« on: March 02, 2010, 04:18:54 pm »
Hi there,

Hoping someone can help me out. Have a 66 convertible and an electrical problem relating to lights. Here is what is happening;

Lights off
LH blinker - dash, front & rear normal
RH blinker - both flash in dash, front & rear normal

Parkers on
both indicators solid in dash, rear lights normal, front RH light on solid, LH off
LH blinker - dash normal, rear normal, front LH flashes, RH on solid.
RH blinker - dash both solid, no RH rear, no RH front remains on solid.

Main beam lights on
Rear lights normal, front lights normal
LH blinker - dash, front and rear normal.
RH blinker - both flash in dash, front and rear normal

High beam makes no difference and I swapped the emergency and main flashers and nothing changed.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

There are much brighter people on wiring than me on this forum, but I'd also check that all 4 blinker globes are the same and the correct spec.

Good luck!

Yes we need to know about the break lights and also the hazards what happens when you just turn them on?

To get you started on the diagnosis its worth checking all your earths are clean and in good condition, and that at every light and unde the dash.

I had a similar problem a while back turned out to be a dodgy wire.

Thank for the guff - brakes are fine, hazards rear is normal, dash normal but only front RH flashes, LH remains off. I'll check bulbs and earths. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the dumbest thing I`ve said all week but have you had any new globes fitted to front (park, indicator) or rear (brake, indicator, tail)? Be sure that all these 4 globes have double contacts on the bottom & not single contact. From what I can work out from the wiring diagram that nassi put me onto (thank you very much ,nassi;{) , it appears that these are double contact globes.
Aside from that  , you have a doosy.Need more precise info i.e. when both lamps are on in dash , are they normal brightness or are they noticebly duller - when parkers/head are on front, rear lamp operation bright/dull  etc
Would be a lot easier to be there with test light in hand - sorry;]

Again , I stress that the dash needs a good earth - even just run a temporary wire from a know good ground to the part of the cluster where the indicator lamps live for testing purposes
