Help with rear main rope type or not?
« on: February 22, 2010, 12:02:26 am »
Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone knows how to tell if my 302 rear main seal is rope type or a conventional seal type by engine number?

Thanks

Not sure about using engine number but a rope main
has a little pin in the seat that holds it in.

Switch to a one piece etc and dont remove the pin....hey presto oil leak!

What year is your engine?

Not sure of the engine year as it is a crate motor.  Hoping that i might be able to tell what type or rear main it has by engine number or a distinguishing feature of the block etc.

I think the only way is a tear down....not that you want to do that.

Actually why do you ask?

Other than the pin issue I raised previously I doubt it would make any difference.
