That is a good read, it's a pity that is was written in 1997, when off the shelf, steel cranks were very expensive, and alloy heads were also out of reach.
I would assume that most tuff engines being built today, would be built using an off the shelf cast or steel, new crank (not a reground crank) and new steel I or H beam rods, and even good alloy heads.
