Can anyone out there tell me what is the corect hole size for the GT 1966 Spot light wire hole in the radiator suppport? The US american forum said it was to be 1 1/8" wich is about 28.5mm. This seems a little too big for just 2 wires. Does anybody here in Australia know?

That holesize may be for fitment of a grommet to stop the wire chaffing. Just a thought.

So does that mean the hole size is 1 1/8" but the gromet takes up all that space?

the hole in your radiator syupport panel can be many sizes as it was not a standardized thing, it changed between all production plants and was dependent on parts used.  Of the many cars i have seen in unrestored condition there is no set rule to follow.
Sometimes there wasnt even a rubber used to protect the wire from rubbing against radiator support and on my unrestored GT i have body seller used as an insulator.
i hope this helps you out

:cool: Phill, Yes your right, the three plants did used different size holes. On my GT the holes size is around 16mm to 19mm approx size. The holes were also punch/ stamp, during the stamp process, so you can tell if it's been drilled. Tony :D

TONY  AND  DAVID.

But there is also something else for you to consider on this subject.  There were more 1965 and 1966 dealer GT's made than factory ordered cars, so it is not always rule of thumb that you must have pressed holes to have a genuine GT.  It is always a topic of contention within the MCA and our own so called expert judges in Australia.

Basically whether you have 16-19 mm holes or 1 1/8 hole or even as just mentioned on this forum 1 3/16 holes, or even if  they be puched or drilled from whichever side , i think you will be judged on the presentation of the final product more than whether you have what someone deems to be the correct size hole.  rule of thumb make it look correct and you should not have any issues if you are competing in concours judge class.

And just for the record my two unrestored GT'S;
one has the punched holes from the outisde into engine bay with one rubber gromet and plenty of room for the wiring to fit through and the other side has body filler/seam sealer on the engine side.
and the other;
has holes which are definately not punched (no lip) but do come with rubber gromets which has just enough room to allow the wiring through.

Phill,
I agree.
This among other GT telltales are hot topics.
This is why it is almost impossible to distinguish a factory GT/dealer GT or a garage built GT.
