year, plant, serial number

Hi guys & Gals,

I have been researching whatever I can to find out about my motor. I knew the engine was not the original and have an 8 digit number on the block.

I have read about a 4 digit code simply being a date code, Eg: 2B13 would be a 62, 72, or 82 model made on the 13th of February.

However I have also read that some earlier blocks had the VIN stamped on them, which would have matched the cars VIN number.

I have been finding a lot of conflicting information. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. The number is 2K176XXX. (There are numbers after the 6, but thought it best not to publishmy block ID.

I'm very interested to hear how this works.

Cheers,

Tom

Dunno where the 'K' plant was, but the 2 is 1972, and the rest is the serial number.

There should be a cast date code as detailed above, and then probably a stamped in date that is the assembly date code - so cast may have been 2A12 (12th Jan 1972) the a stamped date somewhere on the front typically of 26A which was to show it was machined and assembled on the 26th January - it may not have a year date stamped into it...
