Hi all,

I am currently building an eleanor, however i am having trouble deciding on the engine and transmission to put in it.

I am thinking of the following options.

1. 428 big block with 4 speed top loader
2. New 4.6l cobra quad cam with 5 speed tremec
3. New 302 crate motor with 5 speed

In some ways I would like to keep it old school however the new motors and trans are nice. And I would like to keep some value in the car.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

thanks  Damo

Hi Damo, IMHO considering the way fuel is headed the big block would be my last choice. Then if you dont plan to use much it would be hard to beat.
The 4.6 quad cam would look nice with the added bonus of possibly better reliability.
In short, I really dont know. What are the price differentials like? This would have to factor into the equation.
What sort of usage do you expect? and are there any insurance benefits of one over the other?
This has been of no help I'm sure but its achance to say:]

Damo, go the big banger and let loose.  Then the only thing you'll ever have to worry about trying to pass on the road is a servo.:a

As a proud owner of a 428CJ / C6 ----------- I would opt for none other and I believe that the new generation BB copped quite a bit of technology from the old BB.

BUT and theirs always a but - ensure you fit Electronic Ignition , MSD or equivalent and Tune the Carb correctly on a Dyno.

Also i would probably at some point change my C6 for the Latest 6 speed Autos.
3200 rpm at 100kms/hr can get a little crazy after 2 hours on the road.

Happy Smoking ::::::

3200 @ 100kph AND you had enough fuel to get home, I'm impressed. No wonder it got a little twitchy when you put your foot down.
Anyway nice to catch up and if you feel inclined to do another country run let me know.:2 Weather permiting of course.

p.s.  Damo, sorry for the threadjack. But that 428 did sound rather nice.
