What mo is asking is what the 5th digit is on the vin on the data plate on th left hand door is - you can also find it on the fender when the front hood is open.

The 289 4v was either a K code or an A code;  K code had the higher HP rating (from memory, 271 hp) and is considered more collectible over an A code.

You've got a pretty rare car there, as the optional 289 4V engine fitted to the D code cars wasn't sold in large numbers. It was only available from April to September 1964.

Early versions had a generator instead of an alternator, and the oil filler protruding from an aluminium timing cover.

If it's still got the aluminium water pump housing, these were prone to rotting away internally, so keep an eye on it for leaks.

No engine number relating to the VIN on early mustangs.

If it matches your VIN, then it has been stamped  aftermarket to match.  most likely when registered here in oz.
