hi,

how does one determine which c4 they have...

i would like to think that i have the one that matches my year car...but since leaving the factory 41 years ago, who knows what has been done or changed.

Is there a casting or a stamp...where is it..

What model year is your car as their is different codes for different years.

There should a butt tag attached to the gearbox near the linkages. On this butt tag there will be several groups of numbers & letters stamped into it. The 5 letters at the top of the tag will indicate which C4 box you have. After looking in the restoration guide I have these 5 letters should be PCW- AS for your car. If they are different please us know and I'll try help you found out which one you do have.

There is a great tech articles in Mustang & Fords magazine May 2006 edition which has a great deal of info regarding differences in C4 transmissions between the 1st generation Mustangs - page 38. Let me know if you want me to email you with details.
