I was wondering if somebody could help me identify the year model of a mustang engine and gear box that is fitted to a Cobra I have purchaced. the motor is EFI 5lt with Ford HO on the induction manifold and the gear box is 4 speed auto with Metric Ford imbosted on the oil pan.

Sounds like 1981 to 84. Had one in my Cobra too !
I think '85 had '5.0 Ford H.O.' on that cover plate.
Do yourself a personal favour and bolt a Paxton onto it.
Cheers,
Frank.

Is the trans an AOD? ie non electronic 4 speed.. If so it could have been manufactured anytime from 85 to 92. After that thew autos went electronic.

Is it a multi point injected engine or single point?
If it's single then it is an '84 or '85 if it is multi then it is '86 or later.
