My first (of many hopefully!!) Mustang - '66 Coupe
« on: September 09, 2008, 11:13:49 am »
Hey guys,

I recently bought my first mustang and learning a hell of alot about them along the way... I am new to car mechanics etc so I thought i'd throw myself in the deeper end by buying a 42 year old classic....

here are some pics of the investment:

For those of you who are more knowledgeable about these cars, what price bracket should this be in? It's a 289 A-code LHD with drum brakes ( i feel the need to upgrade to disc??) It has done just over 30000 miles also and is currently registered in VIC. Also what advice would you give on increasing the worth of the vehicle?

Thank you all in advance!

Hi jayess, That is an excellent looking Mustang.

We converted our coupe to disc brakes - what a difference!

Very hard to put a value on your car. Each one is individual.
If it goes as good as it looks - and no rust - probably mid twenties?

Hope you enjoy driving it.

Rocket.

Welcome Jayess. Nice looking car and looks to be pretty tidy all over. Discs would be the 1st mod and then possibly Carb/Cam/Extractors next. I was just talking to an ex neighbour who is also about to invest in something similiar and he will pay around mid 20K for a nice 65-67/68 coupe.
What area are you in as we seem to see a lot of classic cars appearing around our area ( Casey )?
A few people have asked me about forming a "classic car cruise club" somewhere near Fountain Gate. Might be worth looking into!

Thanks IGALOP,

i'm based in St Kilda (not sure where fountain gate is???). A few people have advised me that is should be around the mid twenty mark but only based on the pics... I paid fair bit more than that and have that niggling feeling I have paid too much..... Not a happy chappy but I suppose that's what happens when your new to these things?

Hey Jayess.

It wouldn't be the first time someone might have paid more for something they really liked or wanted. Just enjoy it !
I prob paid too much for my 70 fastback given it was a bit rough in the paint and interior department, but I am enjoying fixing it up.

I am in Hampton BTW , so near you ! Fountain Gate is south east towards Berwick past Dandenong. There are a few bayside Mustangers.

Cheers,
Frank.

Completely agree with Frank. Put it behind you, besides, none of us can see what's been restored or invested into the car so it may be worth it anyway.  Just have fun with it, the friends you make, the events you attend and enjoy the journey, which is the fun part.  You'll no doubt invest more and enjoy seeing your baby improved. :f

Hey Jayess, the car looks great.
As a new owner myself all I can say is you will always think you may have paid to much whether or not you have. But the quicker you move on the quicker you will be enjoying your new ride.
Have fun & enjoy !!!
