Depends on your receiver/broker in Melbourne

Hi Mustangers, Our 68 Coupe has just arrived back from the paintshop. Colour is Gulfstream Aqua.

We imported this car about a year ago. It spent it`s life in Los Angeles and was a very well maintained car. We did not need to do a full resto on it. Up to now it has had front disc brakes, booster and master cylinder fitted and then painted by a chap named Andy, who specialises in classic cars. His paint jobs are absolutely superb.

Now we just need to sort out a steering wander issue and then it is down to the registration dept. Can`t wait to get behind the wheel again.

Have a look through my photobucket album.

:p

Hi Austin, i see that you are a fan of the 68 model also.

We are so impressed with this car. Do not need to do much to it. Will fit some amber indicator lenses with lcd lights, and also a nice set of wheels. Currently deciding between 12 slots or chrome dragway splatts.

Other than that - air conditioning is a must have for us. I know that we can fit the factory ducted air, but i have read that it is not very powerful? So will probably opt for under dash type air.

I have seen your car - that is a mighty fine looking stang.

I think I can do without AC, but I haven't had it through a summer yet so you never know.
Have you seen what I did with my rear indicators. Turned the reverse lights into indicators and reverse lights, looks kinda stock and is much safer at night/

Austin, that looks very smart.

Followed my son one night when he was driving a 66 coupe that has the original setup. My thoughts at the time were that it was not easy to see the indicators flashing.

For that reason we have already ordered the amber lenses.

For a car with the factory original setup - your addition of the reversing light/ indicator must be a much safer way to go.

I don`t think any Mustang owner will appreciate a shunt up the bum!

Rocket,
Give the in dash air con a miss. Not worth the effort.
I'm disappointed with mine and could have used the money in other areas.I've heard that the under dash is quite good.

Hi Austin and Bob, i must agree on the air con.

Had quite a few Valiants over the years and was always impressed with the factory under dash air. My father put under dash air in a Torana he owned and that was also cold.

Don`t mind the fact that it is a bit noisy - Just turn the radio up.

Back in the month of May, my son went to Los Angeles to buy a couple of convertables and a fastback.

We finally picked them up in Melbourne on Friday and trailered them home to Adelaide.

It was quite a "saga" to get them here from the USA. We intend to write a thread in the " importing cars " section of the forum detailing the experience we had with a Los Angeles shipping company called  "Titan Shipping."

We have now imported 8 cars from Los Angeles, and with these 3  - we made the mistake of changing shipping companies. We will never again use " Titan Shipping!

Our previous experiences were fuss free with " Schumacher Cargo Logistics ".

So after three months of absolute panic we were absolutely delighted to bring them home.

Hi T CODE, Thanks for that- We are quite impressed with these cars.

When importing a car - you nominate a receiver/broker to handle Customs clearance, AQIS inspection etc.
For these cars we used a business named Loch M Fraser in Melbourne. They did a fantastic job for us which included unravelling the mess that Titan Shipping caused.

The cars had to be steam cleaned, which was done by a company called Pestex . Final AQIS inspection was done at Pestex and we picked the cars up from there. They are located just over the Footscray bridge in Sims st. Do not know the suburb name offhand.
