Engine Number
« on: April 06, 2006, 04:18:49 pm »
Hi,
Can someone tell me where I find the engine number on my '641/2. I have the original tag which is under a bolt, but don't know whether there should be a number other than these.

If memory serves me correctly unfortunately there is no engine number stamped on a 64 1/2 engine block.  However you maybe only beable to decode the original tag you have.

Have now converted the other half into doing some of the Concours washin, cleaning & polishing stuff!!!!!!!!

Herman is correct. There is no engine number on anything up to 67-68 I think. however, if it has been registered in Aust, it should have had an engine number added by Vicroads or the equivalent.

:f  I used my car vin number as my engine number, and it was all ok. Use the last 5 or 6 numbers of your vin. ;*

Thanks everyone. The car has an A code engine, 289 4V and there is a number on the rego papers which was issued by the transport dept. I am lucky in the fact the tag is still attached which has 289 65 5 and underneath 4-H 553 J but I would have like to known where the engine number was for myself. At least I know now, that there probably isn't one anywhere.......Ta again, Too Blue

Hey,
There is definitely no eng number. Use the last digits of the vin. If you are in NSW stamp it b4 you go for the blue slip. This will save a double trip to the RTA.
