EPAS steering on my 1965 Mustang
« on: February 22, 2024, 03:54:28 pm »
Hi all,
I am looking at fitting a EPAS Steering system to my 1965 I6 Mustang Coupe.
The reasion for electric version instead of the say the Borgerson system is my car has
AC and I don't want to put more load on the engine and take more power away from it.
What i'm after is an Australian supplier as to keep money in Australia and not send my money out of the country.
Not sure of which steering box is in the car (16:1 or 19:1).
Sorry if this has been asked already but I did a search and didn't get a desired reply.
Many Thanks
Gary

I installed a EPS system from Sydney mustangs
It wasn’t the simplest exercise but got there in the long run.
The problem with the system is return to centre isn’t assisted unlike modern car EPS.
So it needs all the help it can get.
In order to get there the  unit needs to be perfectly aligned in the steering column or any added resistance will effect return to centre.
The other thing is caster and more caster.
Caster is what returns your steering wheel to centre.
I run 7.5 deg with shims and adjustable strut rods.
It now drives well with a 16:1 box and steering like a xf falcon.

VPW is more affordable; I'm currently awaiting delivery of mine. They estimated it would arrive by the end of March. I placed best plinko online platforms my order three weeks ago. Best of luck, and I'd love to hear about your experience with the installation process.
