Hi I purchased a 1966 mustang coup a week ago , pretty much standard from what I can gather , 289,C4, 8inch rear end. So when I say standard , that includes drum brakes front & rear, single brake master cylinder, & power assisted steering setup. Now first thing I need to do is get a roadworthy. Is there anywhere in southeast Melbourne area that specifically do a roadworthy on these cars. I was thinking of upgrading the brakes & steering first . However was told they may ask for an engineers report. I do want to register on club plates.

While I haven't needed to take my Mustang there I've had a few other cars roadworthied there over the years. There are often old classics in there for work and Roscoe is a great guy. There was a '67 Mustang and a C3 Corvette there the other day when we fuelled up there.

Had my car roadworthy tested at Drever automotive services in Hastings seven years ago.
Was good to deal with.
If you go Kelsey Hayes calipers that are copies of the original disc than I don’t believe you need to have them engineered as they are exact replicas of factory optional brakes.
I got my front disc kit from Russell at Just Mustangs at Riddells Creek.
Make sure you ask for dust plates as they are an option.
Easy kit to fit and brakes were perfectly balanced from scratch.

Not to sure on this but if yours is a 4 stud pattern you may have to change hubs too.??

He says its a 289 so should be five stud.

This is an excerpt from the Guidelines for modifications for vehicles in the Vic Club Reg scheme.
Effectively it means that for vehicles built before 1969 if a brake upgrade option is available for the vehicles both from ford or from a certified brake supplier it can be fitted without requiring an engineers approval and then only needs a roadworthy.

8.2 Vehicles built after 1948 and before 1969
Any braking system offered as an option by the vehicle
manufacturer may be fitted provided it is fitted in its
entirety. Similarly a braking system offered by the same
manufacturer for a later model vehicle of equal or greater
mass may be fitted provided it is fitted in its entirety and
provided its fitment does not involve any cutting, drilling
or welding of any brake, hub, suspension or steering
component.
Commercially available hydraulic brake upgrade kits may
also be fitted provided:
„ the replacement braking system meets the provisions
of the General Requirements section of Code LG of
Vehicle Standards Bulletin 14; and
„ the kit has been manufactured by an entity that is subject
to laws governing product liability; and
„ the kit has been marketed as suitable for a particular
make/model/year of vehicle; and
„ comprehensive fitting instructions are provided; and
„ the kit is fitted in accordance with the instructions
provided; and
„ fitting the kit does not involve drilling, cutting or welding
of any brake, hub, suspension or steering component.

Certainly looks like you can fit almost anything that has a legitimate manufacturer, the challenge then being if they fit inside the original 14” rims
