Glass scratches

Hi,

As it is now summer I have decided to tackle a couple of jobs that I have been putting on the backburner for a while now.

One of those is getting rid of some faint scratches on my drivers side door glass made from winding the window up and down over the years. The attached picture shows the scratches from the outside in and I have highlighted the location with a yellow box, one of them is deep enough for my finger nail to catch on it.

Can anyone recommend a product and procedure to take these out? If not, can you recommend a place in eastern suburbs of Melbourne to take the glass to?

Hey John,
You got onto the right bloke.
I used to have many scratches on both door windows, one back window and the rear window.
Go to YouTube and watch how to remove glass scratches with Cerium Oxide.
First you lightly rotary disc the scratch area over a broad area so you can’t see a wrinkle.
Do not not overheat the glass.
If possible remove the glass from the car.
Use slightly rough wet and dry pads, moving done the finer and super fine.
And then polish to high glass shine with Cerium Oxide.

It does take some time but it can be done!

Using Cerium Oxide that I purchased from ebay with a lot of effort it does work as described.
My tip is use water sparingly to mix a paste.

Hi Geoff,

I haven't advertised it or anything but if someone asked me to sell it then I would seriously consider it. Until then I will continue on with it as normal. So unless someone comes along I will probably still have it when I am 80.
