67 S-code is dead - no electrical activity
« on: September 25, 2023, 07:42:52 pm »
Looking for advice - I have a 67 S-code that is completely dead. Motor won't crank, no lights, no horn, no dash lights.

Battery is near new and has tested good, starter solenoid has been checked and is good (bypassing the ignition switch has the engine cranking over.

No volts from the ignition switch when it is turned on.

My guess is ignition switch is faulty but the lights and horn etc not working is confusing me.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Solenoid wiring may be wrong.
Post a picture so we can check.
The big post on the solenoid that is connected to the battery should also have a smaller wire that connects into wiring loom note these wires should be on the same post.
The other post will send power to the starter.

Agree with solenoid worth checking.
Next voltage reg, bulk head connector then fuse box
You really need a multimeter to follow the voltage and look where it stops

I had a worn ignition switch on my 67 do that to me - turn the key and it shut everything down.

My instance killed everything - not the best thing when you're at the servo trying to fill up.   At the time I put it down do the starter solenoid or the switch and firstly replaced the solenoid as it was the easier thing to do. After finding no change, replacing the switch fixed everything.  :smile01:

Check the earth connections.
There should be at least two, one from the negative battery post to the engine block and another from the engine block to the body.
i.e. remove and check for corrosion then if found clean and resecure. :bolt:
