Having probs with this 600 vac sec (ever since new) so I've borrowed another one until I can figure out what to do. Question is how, does one adjust the mixture to get it to run smooth? I can set the timing by ear but I've never learnt to tune a carb,go figure. Thanks

Get a full Dyno tune. They will measure and adjust the Air:fuel ratio, and do timing with the engine under load.
Best $200 I spent after buying a brand new Holley 465.

Problem is it was dyno'd last year, and it has been going crap for the past few months, missing under hard hammering and stalling at idle.Figuring its dirty or somethings wearing inside.

On a warm engine grab a vac guage, plug it into one of the bottom vac ports on the carb (full manifold vac) and adjust the mixture screws to get the highest vac reading.
Holley website has tech support pdf's to download, that can step you through tuning up your carb, 600 with vac sec should be a 1850 or similar (on the choke housing), try this link. (might take a bit if you are on dial up)

Good luck!

AAArrrggghhh found the problem. A manifold bolt was loose. Now that I've fixed that, I can now get my auto recon'd (3rd time in 10 years). If it's not this it's that,if it's not that, it's this.
