dta308, you don't need compliance on a car built before 1989, just a road worthy certificate/blue slip (unless you're in QLD).  If you plan on getting it converted then all you need is an engineers certificate and RWC/Blue Slip.

i just rego'ed my 66 in VIC, janurary this year.

i sent the car to a RWC shop, who gave it a RWC. i noticed on the web that i should fit RH drive headlights, so i did before it went to the shop, so i don't know if they would have picked it.
They let the rear seatbelts go (mine doesn't have any) as they were optional in 1966.

it passed RWC and went to vicroads with red flashing indicators, left hand drive, 4 wheel unassisted drums and otherwise as it came from the states

Anyone had to do a 69 recently, just wondering if i would get through without having to get an engineers report or getting the lap belts swapped to lap sash?>

I believe rear seat belts and lap/sash front belts wern't law here until 1971. So you should be fine

Mac1, if your car is LHD you wont need an engineers certificate and you wont need to upgade your belts.  My car still has its original Robbins lap belts.

if they are 7" round sealed beams, or semi sealed beams (removable H4 globe) you can pick them up at any auto parts shop, 4x4 shop (really good ones), ricer shop etc.
I used new 4x4 semi sealed beams in my Nissan 4x4, and put the old sealed beams into my Mussy.

no, as the lights are angled towards the kerb, and in the LHD lights, that is to the incoming traffic. You will need the lights to shine to the left in Australia.
BTW, it can't be adjusted out, they must be changed.
But then, your RW guy might not even notice.....

G'day,
to get an idea of what is being said on headlights, try this pointing at a wall one night.
In your regular family car, turn the lights on and whatch where the beam points, and where it shifts to when you goto high beam and back to low.
Then try it in your original LHD muzzy.

Cheers
Jas
(ps if you can't turn your muzzy lights on, then just accept the fact its opposite!)

Also, in your normal car, the light pattern on the wall should be straight across the top, and flick up toward the left. That is what all the little lines and blobs on the glass do. now the LHD lights are going to flick up toward the right, and blind the oncoming traffic.

I notice Thundercat said "you don't need compliance on a car built before 1989, just a road worthy certificate/blue slip (unless you're in QLD)" and was wondering if QLD is harder or easier and exactly what the difference is? Thanks

QLD is harder.

For a heads up...in Vic, if its a 1970 or later even left hookers, need an engineers report.

For that you will need to replace your seat belts with ones that carry the current oz standards info.

I am in QLD and had my '65 complied consisting of headlights, seatbelts ( changed) and rear child restraints fitted, LO2 compliance(lefthand drive). It was a piece of cake- gave the car to him on a Monday morning , had it back complied, RWC and Registered Tuesday morning. All too easy.

Thanks Brett and Jas

Brett
Out of interest can I ask who did it and how much it cost? (roughly). I'm looking at a lovely 65, which apparently might be sold this weekend :f, so am also considering a 69 (my favourite car) from Vic that is currently  registered down there if I can get him to lower the price a smidge.
