clutch master cylinder
« on: January 31, 2022, 11:22:25 am »
Looking for advice on a clutch master and slave cylinder set up on my 65 which I am converting from the mechanical clutch it came with. I assume the master cylinder mounts in the same place where the clutch rod protruded through the firewall in it's original form? I have heard some have unique master cylinders that mount elsewhere to avoid the brake booster? I can't visualise how that works...

Also, does the slave cylinder mount to the side of the bellhousing? I'm using a top loader bell modified for a T5. I assume the clutch fork has to complement the bellhousing I am using rather than the gearbox?

Thanks for your help.

Tony

I have a T5 in my '66. I have a clutch linkage and master from Modern Driveline https://www.moderndriveline.com/ that offsets the master hard up against the inner guard under the wiring connector, leaving room for the brake booster. Its a very clever bit of gear that multiplies the force you apply with your foot making for a nice light pedal, certainly compared to the old mechancial linkage. In my case I have an internal concentric slave/throw out bearing but the same master set up works with an external slave.

Your best bet though is to have a chat with Mal Wood. https://malwoodauto.com.au/ Mal can do you an under dash slave set up so only the hydraulic line is going through the firewall, using the original mechanical linkage hole. If i was doing it again this is the way I'd go.

I've got the Mal wood under dash clutch master kit in mine too and it's great.
That with a hydraulic throw-out bearing and the clutch in my mustang is nicer than the clutch in my daily drive  :thumb:
