Hi guys can any one tell me if once the car has been imported who keeps the origional copy of the American title of ownership. The importer that brought one of my cars in will only give me a photocopy not the origional as they say they have to keep them for there records.I puchased the car in the states in my name but paid them to import it.
thanks

I think you should have the original and they keep the photocopy thats what i would be after anyway.

Who brought into WA for you looking at doing the same.

I agree, the original is definitely yours!! The shippers need it to import but you should get it back!!  I imported my car  a few weeks ago,  the original title was handed over when I picked up the car.

The original is yours so ask for it back. I imported to Brissy and has the car then transported to Cairns. They needed the original for customs I believe but then posted it to me once that was done.
Make sure you get it back.

Cheers

You will need the copy of the title to be certified to register the car, having the original is not  necessary, just aesthetically pleasing seeing as you probably paid a bit for the vehicle and its like a birth certificate. I am in the business and always give my clients the original title. bummer, not much you can do mate.

Shanjay,

I was also wondering if you could let me know who you used to import, would love to have a chat to see how you went about it etc. I am Perth so keen to talk to someone nearby who has been through the experience.

Thanks

Phil
