67 Mustang Styled Steel Wheels rubbing
« on: October 30, 2019, 04:48:41 pm »
Hi,

I have just replaced my 14" Styled Steel wheels with 15" Styled Steel and the front LH brake caliper is just rubbing on the new wheel. Anyone else have a similar issue?

Wheels are genuine Scott Drake wheels.

Thanks
Gavin

You went from 14 inch to 15 inch and now they rub ,hmm strange . Where on the rim is it hitting ? Are their wheel weights on the inner rim ? . Are they original brakes ?  . You need to see where the rim is hitting .  When jacked up can you spin the wheel by hand ? Does it only hit in one small spot .  Is the rim sitting on the hub correct ? . Try and change the wheel to the other side and see what happens .

The 15" wheels use the same 14" centres but with drop barrels instead.

It would be hitting in the section where the barrel drops down to 14" for the centre to attach.

I'm in SA and have a couple of other 15" styled steel wheels you are welcome to test fit if you want.

All,

Thanks for the responses. Info as follows:

1. The rim is catching on the edge of the brake caliper (just behind the bleed nipple).
2. All four wheels are fine on the other 3 hubs, only touches on the LHF caliper.
3. All four wheels rub on the LHF - it barely catches but you can hear the scrape and see a small rub all around the wheel.
4. Brakes are original standard discs.
5. I have spoken with Image Restorations and they have used the same wheels on other Mustangs with no issues.

Cheers
Gavin

I assume the bearings are set correctly? if so its likely just difference the casting of that caliper or stub axle mount points. If is a meaty bit of the casting I would just linish a bit off it.

As Shaun said   :thumb: ; Make sure the wheel bearing is ok then if still a problem just file the part of the caliper just a little till the wheel clears .i have done this plenty of times .

Makes sense - I replaced the front bearings a few months back. I'll drop by the mechanic and get it checked. otherwise out with the file!

Thanks for the advice.
