1966 Engine momentarily loses power
« on: October 19, 2018, 01:40:54 pm »
Sometimes my engine momentarily loses power, just after I start, and as I open up on the freeway. Sort of feels like the power is gone , then comes back, then starts to go again, then comes back.
Yesterday it totally lost power and stalled, after I had pulled over. I waited about 15 seconds, started the car with no problem and drove for 40 minutes just like it was a new car? This has always not  been the case, and only has happened once before. I dont drive it that much. Issue arises shortly after the cruise has started, maybe its a dirty fuel line?

Any ideas as I am not very mechanical

The needle and seat in the carby could be the problem or the float level is too high . I would check the accelerator pump also .  What type of carby ? If a new fuel filter also .

Also, if the fuel tank is old it can be rust getting sucked up around the filter in the tank. One cure for this is to remove the filter from the tank then install a clear small filter in the rubber line just before the fuel pump.

PS - Nice looking car!

Thanks for the advice, I'll pass these on to my mechanic, I don't know what sort of carby-- and the fuel filter/oil filter get replaced every so often when serviced.
I'll keep you posted on the outcome

Honestly.....if your current mechanic can't figure out the problem....you need a new mechanic.

He has never done anything with the filter in the tank and if there is rust in the tank it can temporarily clog the filter so changing it is pointless.
