65 rear suspension help
« on: September 05, 2018, 06:55:06 pm »
Hello everyone

I am after some advise, i have a 1965 coupe and don't know what to do with my rear suspension

i am planing to use total control coil over front suspension but don't know if i should do coil over in the rear as well or just replace the leaf spring with a panhard bar or just leave the leaf as is with good shocks and anti-roll bar

the car has a 347 with about 420 hp at the flywheel and a C10 auto most of the driving will just be cruising

i don't want to keep putting money into the car if i am not going to see any benefit

thanks
shaune

4.5 leaf springs, del-a-lum bushes and good shocks is all you'll need back there.

That was the advice I got to the same question from John at Opentracker Racing.

Shaune, I think you're doing the right thing, I have a 68 Mustang,  347 stroked, forged, big cam, balanced and vortech V3 supercharger (soon to fit bigger impellor) ,  I have just recently fitted Unisteer hydraulic power steering with standard steering,  but with good springs and shocks and 8" wheels with a bit more camber, but the best thing I've done is fitting Helix brand four link coilover rear suspension, it's bolt on to the chassis and weld on to the axle housing, and you can fit up to 9 1/2" wheels, I've found it with the power steering changed the ride incredibly, and I've got it set with really low stance, I've found it great!
Cheers Phil.

If you've never buggered anything you've never done anything!
But if you've buggered a lot maybe you're not very good at it!

Two for one is good but four for two is better!

I've got 4.5 leafs with a mid eye spring, good Bilstein shocks and I do autocross, track, and drag raced once in a while, no wheel hop, I even removed the sway bar to fit my drag tyres in the rear and haven't re-install, still goes around corners with pace no issue. Plan is for a lanyard bar with facility for sway bar on that.

and I have a spare set of the same leafs still for sale if interested, will fit a 65

Four link suspension with coilovers and torsion bar stops , fits beautifully,  if you got wide wheels the torsion bar stops axle movements,  and rubbing guards.

Cheers Phil.

Shaune,

This is my Helix four kink made in China for an American company, Hoffman Group , I'm really happy with it and as Dwayne says its a copy of the more expensive Heidts suspension!

Happy choices, Cheers Phil.
