thoughts from the FE experts
« on: August 02, 2018, 05:41:15 pm »
Hello all.
just looking for people thoughts on weather to put a stroke kit in 390 or just freshen up.
I'm planning on going alloy heads and manifold probably edelbrook  stuff.
what sort of costs involved in machine work for block of going the stroker kit
it will have a C6 behind it.
would like it to be steetable with maybe the odd trackday if I ever get it finished.
engine is a while off but just thought I'd get some ideas.
your thoughts would be much appreciated.
cheers.

As an alternative, I could supply you a 428CJ crank and 428CJ heads cheap if you wanted a budget 410?
Pistons are available off the shelf and you could reuse your existing rods.
Just a thought....

Apart from the stroker kit there is no extra cost, amusing you build it yourself, any clearancing for the rods you just do with a die grinder

oh boy, an fe build.  :pepper:

The edelbrock performer ford fe intake is lame on 390 and useless on a stroker but they make other fe intakes.

You should do all the typical oiling mods including oil restrictors to the heads.

1. Ok, how much money ya got?  :evilone:

2. Do you want monster torque and a low revving engine like 5,000 rpm?

3. Do you want to give up massive torque for a higher revving engine?

4. Will you do much long distance driving above 110 kph?

5. do you want a moderately mild idle, a fairly noticeable idle, or a dragster type idle?

.

EDELBROCK LAME PERFORMER INTAKE

i rebuilt my 390 which i needed a crank so in hindsight  i should have put a stroker kit in it +1 the performer manifold is crap just lighter than std but useless for performance  so you will lose out on all the other work you are going to do

ok thanks guys just looking at options at moment have to save a bit more I think.
so from what I've looked at so far survival  seem to be the go to place for info  and what I've read about them it can take awhile to get  stuff.
was thinking of I'm going to stroke it I might as well go  to  a 445 set up with all new rotating assembly  not sure about heads at moment and yes the blue thunder manifold seems like the goods.
Does anybody know of a honest reliable machine shop    sydney / Newcastle area or of some body who can put this all together  .
cheers

a police interceptor intake is better than an eddy performer and a lot cheaper than a blue thunder but eddy has other intakes that are decent and they are all cheaper than a blue thunder.

i would not use the eddy heads with 445 cubes unless you just want moderate power. you can get big power from other heads but they are big bucks. if you just want a low revving torque monster that you won't be racing people with, the eddy heads are great but they are a bit small for serious hp, although you will still have more than twice what you have with the stock 390.

another option is a high revving 390. like around 6500 rpm. they are a lot of fun. :thumb:
