Fitting a brake light to the spoiler of a 69
« on: February 01, 2018, 07:03:55 am »
I thought I would share a mod I just did to my 69.  I used a spoiler from a 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer that I got from the wreckers for $20. The profile of the doner spoiler was almost identical to the Mustang spoiler.

I wanted the light to not be very obvious when walking around the car. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Clever bugger.  Not a big fan of lights in spoilers , but it looks really good. Well done.  :thumb:

It shocked me. When he showed me the spoiler I expected he'd say at least $100. No complaints my end.

Great work - where did you get the wiring to go? Inside one of the pedestals? Also, how did you great in the new piece - TIG welded or something else?

Hi Jiffy, the wiring runs along the inside of the spoiler and down the mount. I had to drill the mount vertically. I originally thought the spoiler was alloy but turns out it is very thick fibreglass. The donor spoiler is plastic. I experimented with a few glues and fibreglass and found the only one that worked well was Selleys Plasti-bond.
I rand the wires down the boot lid hinge through some rubber tube.
I'm not sure how you would wire it if you are running combined blinkers and brake lights. I have separated my lights so the outer bar is blinker and the two inner bars are brakes. I used an LED kit which was easy to modify this way.
