I dont think it takes much more than a day to build it, but it took 14 months from order to delivery for mine (which I have now had for 12 months). not sure what the lag is now....

You didn't say what type of Mustang, lol

I don't think it takes much more than a day to build it

That would be to assemble it perhaps but from the video below, you can see they have stamped panels sitting in storage, so who knows how long it takes from when they first receive a coil of sheet metal, to the completed car.

Looks like mine (GT convertible) was built on processed at the factory (into the production schedule?) on 15 May and was built on 22 May 2017.  Shows on 22 May it is awaiting shipping and the 'in transit' box is half completed.

Dealer expects it to land in Australia mid August, but no ship assigned yet.

I am banking on a late August pick up.

Hey Brumbe,

Just wondering did you try bargain with floor stock or did you get a decent price on delivery? Have order in for 2018 but not gonna wait until 2019 for a 2018 model anymore.  How much did you have to put down for order if i may ask?

About May last year I decided to purchase.  I was planning on a 2018 model, ordered for November 2017 delivery, but in January dealer (who has been great) called to say 2018 unlikely to be available before third quarter of 2018 and did I want to wait that long?  No!  So August was the soonest he could get me one.  So my plan is to enjoy the 2017, place an order for a 2018 upgrade model for delivery in August 2019 which gives me time to decide if I want to keep my 2017 or, assuming I can test drive a 2018/2019 and read up on any problems, upgrade in 2019.

I put down $1,000 (last year other dealers were still asking up to $5,000 deposit).

I ordered my 2017 GT manual with no options (given there were only 2 or 3 cosmetic options) on 20 September 2016 (the day of the 1st test drive I could actually get in a GT manual). Timeline for me was:

20/09/2016 Place Order with dealer
23/12/2016 Car was ordered in the production system in the USA
07/02/2017 Car was built :)
22/03/2017 Car was loaded on the ship in Baltimore (sat on the dock for a month :( )
25/04/2017 Car was offloaded in Brisbane
03/05/2017 Car was delivered :)

I did have the opportunity (twice actually) in the interim to take a car (GT manual) in stock (or shortly to be in stock), but declined due to (1) none were in Race Red and (2) the significance of the build date (my son's birthday) and the shipping date (my birthday), a bit sentimental I guess ....

So, there are cars around if you are not picky about the colour .... unfortunately no discounts at all on those as they do move along quick enough not to cause holding issues for the dealers.

I'd been wondering about this myself, I'm heading into the Army next month, plan is to look to purchase a 2018-2019 Mustang some time next year and see what happens as to how long it all takes depending on availability I guess.

Out of curiosity, has the wait times improved much since it initially released from dealers here?
