Recall
« on: March 13, 2017, 09:59:17 pm »
Ford has recalled its Mustang pony car in Australia due to a potential problem with the battery cable wiring loom.

The carmaker said the loom may be too close to the exhaust manifold.

Should the loom contact the manifold while the engine is hot, the insulation may melt and create a short circuit. This could affect the operation of the vehicle, or create a fire hazard.

Ford says no such incidents have been reported in Australia to date.

Affected models were built between May 2015 and March of last year, and all are fitted with the 5.0 litre V8 petrol engine. In total, 1391 are on the recall list for Australia.

Ford will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone Ford Australia on 1800 503 672.

I looked at mine with an auto-electrician mate, seems to be good, 20mm spacing & the cable in the manifold area is wrapped in a thin shield. Quite visible from above.
The only problem we could see was in the future, if the cable clamps (plastic) deteriorated & let go, the cable may come in contact with the manifold....still worth a trip to Ford!

Why do they build things wrong and then recall??  Is this due to the RHD configuration?
Weird that you need to build 1391 cars before noticing the problem!! :ouch:

From what I have been able to find it is to do with RH drive configuration, though I have read of similar issue in US.

Thompson Ford picked my 2015 GT convertible up this morning for the 15k service, the recall, replace windscreen wiper blades, warranty repair on the rear windows and replace rear trim, again, a warranty issue.

Had the car from around 9am and am expecting it back here in around 5 minutes (4:30pm?). So, possibly it might have been half the day. When they called, the tech did say he had not seem trim wear like mine has....phone just rang, car is back here now - anyway, all sorted.

Does seem like a lot of time to look at the wires and see if they are too close to the exhaust........
