How important is it avoiding full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration on the first thousand or so kilometres can have a real knock on effects for the cars future performance or the new tech allows us to ignore such driving techniques?

Hi Lev

With modern engines they are pretty good to go from the start - although I still make sure that I drive in all rev ranges in the first 1000klm.

The oil in the new S550 isn't changed until the 15K service - I'll be changing mine soon, it has done 1069 klm so far.

When the cars are built, they are tested hot then sit at the dock for up to a month, then driven onto the ship, sit for another long period - lots of condensation building in the motor/oil.

Oil and filters are cheap insurance.

Cheers

J

yup, drive it increasingly hard over the 1000km, they're ready to go from a couple of hundred k's and as long as you don't labour it or thrash it, you'll be fine
