1965 289 Engine
« on: January 30, 2017, 11:30:23 pm »
Still looking around for one of these.  Prefer a good runner but can rebuild if needed.  Need 65 to match the car but I guess I could have another year if I really had to :(

In SA, being a LHD, I need to have a bone stock 289 2V.  Want something complete from carby to sump and inc exhaust manifolds i.e. drop in.

As Dwayne says, looks like you have wider options coming over there but as I think I've already let you know I have a complete one from '66 here.

Exactly right Geoff.

An upgrade from 289 to a 302 roller is as simple as lodging a form, just like RHD vehicles currently do.

If I remember correctly MK1_OZ has a 351w in his 65 so it may not be okay under the new rules if the 20% increase from stock rule applies (something along these lines in other states).

Here's the link to the current rules for RHD vehicles:
http://www.sa.gov.au/topics/driving-and-transport/vehicles/vehicle-standards-and-modifications

The proposed changes will apply these rules to LHD as well.

Didn't realise the SA changes were cast in stone Dwayne???  If they are, I will get a 289 4V

Nothing in stone yet, but if the project is still underway ... perhaps hold off on those purchases.

The changes have bi-partisan support.
