Both cars are beautiful. Did the 66 shelbys come with toploader or alloy t-10 box. If the later , would that affect the value of a Shelby ? By the way , i'll take both. :thumb:

I am looking for a 1966 Shelby fastback

Aren't we all?

Both of those are nice looking cars but I don't think the white one is or was ever a Shelby. A lot of non-original changes to it.

The hertz cars were autos in 66. Otherwise a t 10 I believe.

It may be a good idea to contact someone on the shelby registry. Below is a link to the contact us page. They may know of a genuine shelby or two for sale as well. :thumb:

If you want a real Shelby, you gotta pay the real dollars.

Yep.

And the "I'll find a project and save money" concept falls apart really fast when you look at prices for real-deal Shelby parts (as a Shelby with Drake stuff is just sacrilege, for even the parts they do make...)  The top line repros, such as at Tony Branda, are not cheap.

A complete car needing a decent amount of work, as can be seen on the site linked, brings in near 6 figures US now.

Buy a 60K shell less engine. "some" rust, and some interior, etc bits missing... assuming you can even find one, and the "savings" evaporates really fast.  Let alone the time and hassle to fish thru all the fake parts and false claims many sellers make, knowing uneducated buyers often fall for it.  A whole learning curve to get "right" parts.

If you're going to "restore" a real "project car" and don't have deep pockets just buy a regular fastback and readily available repro parts and make a clone.  Doing one wrong is worse that not doing it at all.

Example 67 project.

$50k USD, as-is, where-is.  In the US double it, minimum if you do a lot of work, to make it right...

Buy, ship and restore here, you'll easily hit $150-200k local $ to do it right.

The hertz cars were autos in 66. Otherwise a t 10 I believe.
The first 85 vehicles made were Manuals, due to clutch dramas, all later cars were Auto

Suggest you stay away from 65's then :)

That's about the starting point for a 66 Shelby I'm afraid (give or take 20-30k), I did see that there is another 66 for sale atm in Tas, but around 250k. If you are serious, spend some time on the SAAC forums (dedicated to Shelby's), don't limit yourself to AU but also keep in mind the import costs (taxes mainly)

Clones are another valid option as are restmods - all comes down to what $ you can justify and what you want to do with it

cheers

greg

Dale ,your car looks very nice,I would really love an original Shelby but I think I would be happy if I could find a really nice replica.

Same situation I was in mate, a real deal in the condition mine is in as a 1/4 of a million dollar car, I can't afford that, much less be able to drive it and devalue it. So I did the next best thing and built a replica/clone etc.

Click on the image below my post and you can scroll through some shots of my car................enjoy! :thumb:

unfortunate;y, u wont get into any running shelby (65-68) for under 6 figures. if u want the 1st generation shelby cars, then u need to pay. it looks like ur looking at a clone. i recall a white 65 for sale in WA for about $80k

Give Sean a call @ Bosscraft
http://www.bosskraft.com/

He owns a few and has a broad network relating to the model. If you are genuine he could definitely find something suitable.

Talk to Shelby Registrar Nez - he is the man. Nice looking 67 Nightmist Blue available - $140,000 or thereabouts - much better idea than an import

I have owned a 66 Shelby and currently own a 67 - personally far prefer tge 67!!!!
