Anybody running dual carbs?
« on: August 18, 2016, 05:41:48 pm »
Hi guys,

So my motor is almost built..... ive really been thinking about running a dual carb setup, is anybody running a 7535 edelbrock intake manifold? Does it fit under the bonnet? (I want it more for how it looks, i realise it probably wont do anything else)

I have a 2" reverse cowl bonnet however not sure if it will fit. A little hard to messure now with no motor.

Cheers

Fitzy has 4 carburetors on his 67.

Do you know who owns that Yellow Boss 302 in your photo . It looks like a high end Concours car I sold to a guy named Robert.

I had always though about trying out the RPM dual quad - I expect it to perform well.

In an case, dimensions are

Manifold height: A-4.85", B-5.70"; Carb pad height: 5.28". Port exit dimensions: 1.05" x 1.90".

in comparison the single air gap Edelbrock #7220 is

 Manifold Height: A-4.30", B-5.50"; Carb pad height: 4.90". Port exit dimensions: 1.04" x 1.85".

So your looking at only marginal extra height and I have run Air Gaps under a stock bonnet. No problem fitting it I would expect given you have a scoop.

I forget the owners name, really nice bloke from country Victoria.

I also did that compareson however my only concern was the positioning of carby number 1 as it will sit right behind the dizzy, much more forward then single carb position so with the bonnet slope the space naturally reduces slightly?

I like the look of 3 deuces :thumb: and I suspect they would drive better at low speed as they just run on the centre carb.

Distributor will not be an issue assuming normal size one. I think you will find with a 2 inch scope you would be plenty of space. I have a Vic Senior with an oval intake (same as an option for a dual) and it is out of the bonnet at the from by 1 inch. So I would expect it to be similar and you could use a drop base or modify do it is lower.

Dizzy is a ready to run Pro Billet MSD. Large cap will not fit this combo.

MSD Website says
small ready to run/pro billet is 4 3/4 12.065cm
Big cap - 5 3/8 13.65cm

1.5cm overall difference

Hey Zlat,
I have done some measurements for you. The closest part of the carby is the left front mounting flange to the small dizzy cap which is 25mm. However the large center vacuum port is only 10mm from the cap. I drew an imaginary circle based on your measurements and the large cap would be only 2mm from the aircleaner flange of the front carby and would most definitaly hit the vacuum ports and idle mixture screws.
Your other alternative to the expensive MSD would be a Professional Products Powerfire ready to run billet dizzy worth half the price of the MSD. It uses the same small cap as the one in my engine.
I hope this helps.
Cheers.... :thumb:

Did the red Boss have new white standard interior and come from California?
